biotechstudent: I think you have pretty solid research exp, but I still suggest you to apply to some more safer schools. The schools your applying to are extremely selective.

How're you guys handling the SOP's? Have you made a generic SOP and tailor it suitably for concerned institutes?

Most of my SOP was general (talking about my research and work experience). The only part I tailored in each was the section wherein I talk about my research interests.

I took the GRE a year ago but I sent in a request to send my GRE scores to all the schools this past Monday. It says it takes 5 days to process! When they send them out do they do so electronically or by mail? I'm concerned my scores won't be received on time!

Never mind! I contacted ETS and they were able to tell me which schools receive scores electronically. My scores were sent out today and lucky for me the only schools that still receive scores by mail are in New York, and ETS is in New Jersey.

I've been keeping my SOP pretty general with experience and reasons for going to X University and what I hope to do with my PhD. I kept out all that sentimental stuff about loving science as a kid, etc.

And how about contacting the professors? Have you contacted prof's in every program you are applying?
