need some advice (finance or accounting)
I just needed some advice on what to choose between accounting and finance.
Let me tell you the whole story. Currently, i am majoring in finance and have done two major courses. My current GPA is above 3.9. I am doing my first work term at CAE and by the time of graduation, i will have a 1 year of experience in finance hopefully.
Now, i have heard from a lot of people that most of the students in Finance usually start their career by being a bank teller. Do you think having a one year experience and a good GPA would get one a decent job in finance?
I have also heard that CFA doesnt guarantee a job and is less demanding than a CA. Moreover, MBA is almost useless since 70% of the courses offered are very similar to the ones in undergrad b.com degree. I have been working very hard to do good in this program and after listening to all this, it really has got me worried. I just wanted to know if it would be appropriate to change my major to accounting and finance to minor since there are relatively way more opportunities in accounting. For example, if you check on monster.ca, every finance job requires CA designation. Every finance job has to do something with accounting and not vice versa.
That decision of handling both finance (as a minor) and accounting (major) at the same time would involve a lot of risk and require a lot of thinking. I will have to work very hard. I just wanted to know if its worth it or not in your opinion.
