How long/much do I need to study?

Hi, I'm a college senior and just decided I'm going to be applying to some graduate schools this year. The deadline is in January for the applications. I know absolutely 0 about the GRE's. How long should I study before taking my first test? Is it like the SAT's where you are encouraged to take it twice?

The average amount of recommended study time is 2-3 months. However it varies depending on how much the individual needs.

i only took the GRE once, I don't plan on taking it again
