First-Semester Recess

Does anyone know if they close residence halls for the first-semester recess (i.e., do you have to leave campus)? I live pretty far away, and it'd be kind of expensive to buy plane tickets home for both the October break and the Thanksgiving break...

I know they stay open for the Thanksgiving break and I would think they must in October too with so many international students. My son always came home or did an alt break activity. You might want to look into that actually. The only Oct one I remember, he worked on an urban organic farm in Milwaukee. Loved it.

Dorms are open for all breaks except for winter break (it's over a month long). Also, there are alt break trips that you can go on if you want a break from campus.

Giving special circumstances you can even request to stay on Campus for Winterbreak. It's usually only for internationals but I know a few who've done it.

The nice thing about fall break is that the dining hall remains open, which it doesn't do for spring break.

By spring break you will know the inexpensive restaurants in town and every dorm, I think, has a kitchen. There is a nice little supermarket about 2 blocks from campus so you can get what you need there. But I would really recommend you consider alt break activities. You'll hear about them when you get to campus.
