Waitlist Email

Did any1 else get this email from Grinnell? I assume everyone on the waitlist got it.

Quote:
We are now accepting students from our alternate list. We would like to gauge your interest in being taken off. If admitted to Grinnell at this time, would you definitely enroll given sufficient financial aid? Please let us know either way.

Yours truly,

Nancy J Maly '61
At least they are still going off it!

A friend's daughter, who was on the waitlist, got this email about 3 weeks ago. She responded that Grinnell was her first choice and was subsequently admitted (with generous financial aid.) Hopefully, it means they are sussing out your level of interest for a reason. Good luck.

OMG if I get admitted I would FREAK OUT.

Here was my response:

I would definitely enroll at Grinnell if given sufficient financial aid to make Grinnell reasonably affordable. Grinnell was my dream school from the very first moment I read about it. The students' passions for learning, the diverse and unique students body and the opportunities for study abroad and research all attracted me. Additionally, Grinnell's offering of courses in Arabic sounded extremely interesting to me and while I have never had the opportunity to learn the language before, I would love to take it at Grinnell College.

Does that sound any good?

Also, my EFC was 28k, but in order for me to attend, I would have to bring Grinnell's price down to around 21k (all grants). That is the only way my parents would let me go, as it matches my other colleges price. My parents have spent a long time calculating how much they can give and only believe that 10k-14k is possible. I can contribute around 3k a year of my own money that I get from working, but do you think that Grinnell will give me more money then my EFC?

Did you tell Grinnell how much FA you would need in order to attend? If not, I think you should. I'm not a FA expert, but how will they know unless you tell them?

I was planning on telling them when I if I was admitted and appealing the FinAid package if it was necessary.

When I found out I was waitlisted I never thought I had much of a shot because the past few year they have accepted less then 10 out of over 450 people. If I do get in though, I will contact FinAid ASAP.

Well maybe that's the best way to go. I'm sure they had to wait-list more than usual this year. Best wishes for Grinnell, but remember that Beloit is also great.

Friend's daughter was able to negotiate her FA offer, even as a wait-list admit, so that may be possible.

Keep us posted, smallcolleges. Success stories are always nice to hear.

Hey SmallCollegesFTW! I got the same reply today.
Though, yesterday, because I was too nervous and confused, I only wrote a short reply saying yes I will definitely go so today I sent another letter updating them on a few things about my academic life, just in case.
If you think you have things to update them on too, I suggest it wouldn't hurt to do so.
Good luck!!! Let's cross our fingers and hope!
