I hope this does not sound like a silly question, but what do you recommend my child should wear to their interview next month?

I know Grinnell is somewhat laid back and unpretentious, which we absolutely love, but what do most kids wear to their interview?

My son was thinking about Khaki's and a button down striped shirt(he wears untucked button down shirts over T-shirts all the time).

Of course he lives in Blue jeans and shorts, but he was thinking Khaki's.

We understand that this is not only an opportunity to be interviewed, but for him to interview the school as well. He has so many questions and is really eager and excited to visit.

We are very excited to come out to Iowa and learn more about the school. Everyone has been helpful so far and seem really nice too.

I think your son's thoughts are right on. While the kids may run around in pjs and almost anything else once they are accepted and attending, and while they dress in outlandish costumes for parties, I think khaki's and a collared shirt is exactly the right note. Score one for your son!

Your ds's "outfit" sounds fine. I'm assuming he'll tuck that shirt in and wear a belt LOL

I agree with all of the above. If he is comfortable in khakis, I think that's a great choice. For future interviewees reading this, I would encourage you to dress comfortably. Neatly, but comfortably. I think my son wore jeans in good condition and a collared shirt, but his interview was not on-campus and in a somewhat more casual atmosphere than the admissions office (if that's possible.).

My daughter is planning on wearing a knee length khaki skirt, black top, and sandals. Hair up, minimal make up. Sound okay?

Absolutely, collegesearchmom. They could probably get away with all kinds of edgy stuff, but why go there? Just wear clothes that blend into the background and enjoy the conversation. Wearing really formal clothes might raise questions of fit. Casual and neat can't go wrong.

Our S wore khakis with a belt and a short sleeved shirt tucked in.

My son wore khakis a dress shirt that was tucked in with dress shoes for his. He was accepted and is now attending. I did see others from shorts to suits.

the students i met in the admissions building during our tour had tattoos and spiked hair. they couldn't have been nicer, more helpful or informative, and polite. my son, his friend, and myself were impressed that this school values more than appearances. i wonder what they wore to the interviews. . .

be comfortable, polite, humble, inquisitive, and your interview should go well.
