Chance please! International applicant interested in Grinnell!

Hi! I'll get right to it!

SAT: Taking in October, estimating around 2150~2250
SAT II: US History:800, World History:750
AP: US History:4, English Language:5, Environ Sci: 5, Microeco:4 (Taking AP Comp Sci, AP English Lit, AP Psych, AP Bio, and AP Stats for Senior year)
GPA: 91.7/100
Rank: Top 50% (of a small class of 81 students)
ECs: Community service-driven, work experience, speech, and some competitive sports with some leadership roles and awards
Recs: I guess they will turn out to be pretty good
Region: Asia
School Type: Private school, sends grads to top schools, extremely competitive (Bottom halves move on to Cornell)
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male

Oh, and by the way, I am a US citizen.. if this matters at all.

Most of the accepted students are in the top 25% of their classes, but maybe this would not be an issue from your particular school. You otherwise look like a strong applicant. Where else are you thinking of applying? What particularly attracts you to Grinnell?

Thanks for the reply bethievt, I'm applying to schools in the Midwest, and my counselor recommended Grinnell, emphasizing the loyal alumni network (he called it the "Grinnell Mafia") and the exceptional campus experience that students enjoy while attending the school. Currently, I do not know much about this school besides what US News and Collegeboard has to say, but I'm definitely interested in Grinnell!

You could read the Why Grinnell? thread here and ask any other questions you have there.

yes, just ask questions.

I feel like I did not ask enough questions and I kinda went in blind, but I think I like Grinnell. It is definitely a great school.

Also your stats look good to me. Of course there's always chance involved, but my stats weren't as good as yours and I still got in.

Ummm... I might be being really dense here, but if you're a US citizen then ...you're not international?

@ portugueseseninja: (what a long display name lol).. I think regardless of citizenship, students who are applying from abroad are considered "Internationals."

mosdefinitely (your name is pretty long too!) - If you have US citizenship I'm *almost* positive that you wouldn't be classed as an international student.

At Grinnell overseas American students after admitted can joint the international students orientation program and Grinnell as well as some other colleges might count them as "internationals" for the sake of campus diversity but legally and everything else they are not classed with the internationals. So American students applications will be reviewed under a "need-blind" policy while internationals will not. Admission rates for internationals, fairly enough, are much lower than for US students so to be an overseas US student is a plus point for any application and your stats "mosdefinitely" are very good and so your chance to be accepted. Grinnell seems to be a match school for you so if you really want to go there convey this in your essays
