Need Current student's advice-Winter boots

Hi,
My S will be a freshman in the fall and I have no idea what kind of winter boots would be appropriate for a central NY winter. I would appreciate any suggestions for brand and type (waterproof hiking type boot vs LL Bean type duck boots) that would be functional but look good too. I am just going to order something but I thought I would get student's opinions first as to what is popular right now.
Thanks in advance

Having had a couple of kids attend Hamilton, you will need a decent pair of waterproof boots. Last winter was mild. But remember that CNY averages 150-plus inches of snow each winter. Duck boots are popular (particularly those that have a heavy lining). Hunter rubber boots are popular for girls, particularly in the spring when all of those inches of snow melt into a foot of slush. Timberlands are popular for all.

The road crew at Hamilton does a pretty nice job of keeping the paths, sidewalks, and roads clear. So a lot of kids just wear sneakers to get around. Hope this helps!

I would definitely recommend getting a pair of the LL Bean boots with the heavy lining. They are comfy and really useful when the snow comes!! Also, it can't hurt to get a pair of comfy indoor boots with lining to keep you warm during the winter.
