Alcohol?

I heard that there is a big focus on alcohol on campus. Is this true?
Is there a pressure to drink? And are there other things to do socially speaking?

You will not find a college in America that would appeal to a multifarious group of kids that doesn't have an alcohol "issue." And it is MY opinion that if you cannot find something else to occupy your time or create other things to occupy your time, if this is what you want, than that says something more about you than it does about the school. The school itself offers alternatives and it is clearly up the students to take or not take advantage. However, this said, I have heard what plagues Hamilton is not necessarily Alcohol but that there is a degree of drug use that surpasses "ordinary" use at other schools. One caveat: this is all hearsay.

My 2 Cents

Have a D at the school. She is an athlete. I can say with a strong sense of confidence that there is no more drinking at this school than any other college or university in this country. I believe that like many colleges there is a level of tolerance that again can be found in most collegiate environments. I can tell you that I have heard of no drug incidents since she has been there, not to say there aren't drugs also.

I will say that due to the high level of academic requirement and the high percentage of student athletes that partying is almost no existent during the week and during the in season times for the athletes.

I am beginning to form an opinion that one of the reasons that Hamilton may have this "drinking" reputation is because of its location. It is nowhere near any big city nor does it have a lot of off-campus drinking opportunities, therefore, the drinking is more noticeable on campus. I am thrilled my D is at this school and would not hesitate one moment to recommmend it to anyone else.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your 2 cents. S will be playing 2 sports for Hamilton. It's good hear from someone that has first hand knowledge. The hearsay can make you crazy.
