Hamilton's Character

Any notes on what defines the school. Obviously, there isn't just one type of student, so if anyone is willing to dive into the different facets of Hamilton ...

Thank you! Trying to decide between Hamilton and Bowdoin

The people at Hamilton are unlike anywhere else... there is sincere friendliness and warmth that emanates from the student body. If you are stuck between two schools, reading my thoughts (or anyone's thoughts for that matter) on Hamilton and Bowdoin is useless.... I recommend you do an overnight at both schools to get a good feel for the student bodies and the environment. Then you can form your own opinions and see which place feels most like home.
Good luck and happy college hunting!
:-)

R4484 - Thanks for your waitlist comments. I went around talking to students on both campuses while visiting w/ my son. found Bowdoin kids more intense intellectually. not to say Hamilton doesn't have intellectual power too but Bowdoin kids seemed more interested in demonstrating it. Hamilton kids much friendlier. You have a tough choice. One thing I remember just to give you a snapshot. Bowdoin admissions has maps to Colby Bates etc. I thought how funny. A kid coming into admissions saw me looking and said "we don't care if you look at them, THIS is bowdoin you know." Hamilton clearly spent a lot of effort thinking about integrating kids (not racially I'm talking every way.) Noticed tables in cafeteria were all larger. no kid sits alone. Bowdoin had the usual mix. Good luck, I'd be curious to know what you decide.

@bistolstomp

most schools with other colleges near by have maps in their admissions offices. it's simply considerate.

when my mom and i were doing our Ohio tour we visited Oberlin first and got directions from them to Kenyon

when I was at Bates they gave directions to Bowdoin and Colby

these schools know that the kids that come and visit aren't simply going to the middle of Ohio or Maine to see them but rather that they're doing "the tour"

Don't take Bowdoin's consideration as snotty-- its not how they intended it.
