Funny stuff from the housing questionnaire

One of the responses they want was something like -

(a) I'm a neat freak and I want to room with another neat freak
(b) I'm neat but not OCD about it
(c) I'm a little messy and I don't mind a bit of mess
(d) I'm a pig and want another pig to share my sty with.

Here's my thing. I'm not neat. I don't mind a bit of mess. But it's MY mess. I don't know how I'll feel about someone else's filth touching mine. I feel like I should pick D to be safe, but what if my point of view about what is considered "messy" is horribly skewed? I could come to campus and find out that, comparatively, I'm apparently not that messy. I don't want to be the room's designated fuss-budget.

They should add a free response field for that question. Or at least give you a baseline for "messy".

it sounds like you align more with the C answer... a little messy and can tolerate a little mess. I put down D, and this past year I had a REALLY messy roommate. It didn't bother me because I am obscenely messy too, but our room was an absolute disaster. Our friends could never see the floor and piles of clothes were everywhere. My roommate and I laughed it off because we are both really messy and tolerated each other's messiness, but if you don't think that you can tolerate extreme messiness, I would put C.

Don't underestimate just how messy "messy" can be--one of my freshman year roommates in my quad swapped his desk chair for a 4-5 week pile of laundry and just sat on his dirty clothes at his desk. I didn't mind this since the clothes were just by his desk, but I had definitely never seen something like that before.

Some other friends (sophomores, so they chose who to live with) adapted to their bedroom floor being completely covered with dirty clothes from one roommate by using those clothes to wipe and dry their feet after showering in their private bathroom...

Given that your mess sounds reasonable C seems like the best choice...I'd be careful choosing D unless it really applied to you since your idea of messy could be another persons idea of perfectly clean.

Thanks for the responses. I was leaning toward the D answer on that question, but I fear that me X 4 would just be too disgusting, even for me to live in. I think I'll take your advice and choose C.
