is Hamilton a good school?

Can any current students or alumni tell me about their experience at Hamilton?

I am a current student at Hamilton and I can tell you that Hamilton is a great school that is only getting better. Much has been done here in the past several years to improve the campus - our two main academic buildings have both been newly renovated and are state of the art. In addition, a new student center is in the works, to be completed in time for Fall 2010. Aside from the physical layout of the campus, Hamilton's small community really is tight-knit. You will be hard pressed to find a student here who does not actively participate in one or more groups, sports teams, greek life organizations, etc. At Hamilton, you are not defined by being "a greek" or "an activist"; rather, most students at Hamilton have diverse interests and are open-minded to new activities.

The Administration is all about preserving the experience that only Hamilton can provide. Big name speakers, artists, and performers are brought to Hamilton regularly, so there is no need to go off campus to find things to do.

Your question is general, so I have just hit a few topics. Most important is that the scene at Hamilton is very open and inclusive. I think this goes a long way in providing for an educational atmosphere in which students work together rather than working against each other as is the case at other LACs.

Can you talk a bit about the academics at Hamilton? How are the classes? professors? workload?

What is the student body like? How is residential life?

The academics are very good here. Expect a nice workload and don't think it gets any easier throughout the semester! What's great especially about our academics is that you (basically) don't have any requirements to fulfill, so you can take classes you're truly interested in. Professors are ready to help whenever, especially during office hours, and they love seeing you do well. It's possible to do very well here... or poorly. You can't underestimate your classes and you can't slack off like you might have been able to in high school. Professors don't seem (in my experience at least) to distribute only x number of A's, y number of B's, etc - you get what you earn here.

Student body is pretty great. We could be more diverse, but you'll find friends here easily that'll mesh with you. I'm not sure what to say on res life really... if you have a problem, they're there to help you out.
