Can you Get an unsheduled weekend tour?

We might be in the area next week, and might want to stop at Hartwick since it would be close by. There are no scheduled tours at that time.

Anyone that goes here on this board? If so, I know that this is an isolated school. Do you need a car, or can you get transportation to Walmart and the local mall. Thanks.

Just give admissions a call about the tour [1(800)HARTWICK]

My D goes there, I'm pretty sure she's taken the bus to Southside, but it sounds like more often she's gotten rides there from other students with cars.

Dado2grls, I am so glad that you still read cc on occasion! I think that Hartwick might be a good match for my son. I gave them a call, and they are not around, but offered a self tour package. I figured out another weekend that we can probably visit when they can give tour. I think that would be much more informative.

What bus? Is this a city bus, or a bus that Hartwick runs? Is there a bus stop nearby? What is Southside? Thanks.

Dado2grls, does your D like Hartwick? Is she happy with her decision?

The bus is 'OPT', I am going out on a limb here and guess it's Oneonta Public Transit?

The bus is free with student ID from Hartwick. OPT provides shuttle busses for SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College Thursday through the weekend at regular 30 minute intervals during school sessions. The shuttle is free to Hartwick students with their 'Wick' card/Id. It runs past downtown, which is in walking distance, and goes to Southside Mall (really just JC Penney, a reasonably-priced 9-screen movie house, OfficeMax, and about 20 other places.), right across the parking lot from the ubiquitous Wal-Mart.

As for her decision, she stated before the first semester was over that she could not imagine herself anywhere else.

Dado2grls, Thanks for the information. Does this bus system work out well for your D, or does she have her own car on campus?

I have some other questions about this school? What % of students are involved in frats/sororities? I have read that they have had some problems with frats, but I am really impressed that it has not been swept under the rug, and something seems to be being done about the problem.
My other concern is that even though merit awards seem generous and some improvements are being made on campus, their endowment according to Petersons is only 59.4 million. It seems that they have tried to sell some of their assets (ie: artwork-they ended up deciding not to sell this asset). Is this school in any financial trouble? I have no idea, and I am trying to figure this out, but I don't want to send my child to a school with financial problems.

Is there anybody who is familiar with Hartwick and knows the answers to some of these questions? Thanks.
