i'm in a 6-person with 2 singles and 2 doubles :/
oh well

union dorms aren't too far, so i wouldnt worry about that. also, i was someone who really wanted a single and i got put into a double first semester, and it was really great for me. you learn to abondon your need for privacy pretty quickly.

Before you get all excited about Harvard dorms. here's one detail that I wish someone had told me earlier...

Harvard dorms don't have cable TV.

Chew on that awhile...

Yeah, that really does suck about the cable situation -- but I thought that there is a cable tv in each of the dorm common rooms. Is that correct? And is there usually a lot of demand for these TVs?

Definitely don't want to be missing Grey's Anatomy on Thursdays...

Not all dorms have common rooms. And for those that do, it's shared between 15 or more people. Well actually it's shared between all the undergrads, since the common rooms don't belong to the dorm but can be booked by anyone.

I am in Canaday this year. Honestly, I have no clue why people call it the projects. You don't go to Harvard for the aesthetically pleasing dorms on the outside... Canaday is great. Close to everything!!! You really begin to appreciate it more now (exam season) when I am only a foot away from Cabot library... no long walk back home. I love it there!!! My own heating, my own single in a room with 4 other girls... I am spoiled!

You are going to have heck of a time trying to watch broadcast TV with the reception quality in Cantabrigia.

Another great thing about Canaday, if you happen to have one of the dorms in Canaday facing Annenberg, you are going to appreciate it during the winter, when you can just look outside your window and see if there's a long line in front of Annenberg and avoid waiting outside in the cold.

Common room cable outlet + a splitter + a reel of coaxial cable + some ingenuity might lead to your bedroom having cable also.

Or you could do what some folks in Lionel did...put a satellite dish on Harvard's gate.

I'm in a complete single. It has its perks, it has its downfalls. I'm sure you can guess: I'm much more productive, I don't worry about fighting for space, I have tons of privacy. People like to come to my room when we have to review for classes or just have a one-to-one talk. Then again, it gets lonely. Usually, I can fix this by walking downstairs (the guys are up until 2 or 3am), but if it happens at an odd hour, it's too bad. Luckily, I've really never had problems with the loneliness factor ... I love having a single.
