It depends on the dorm. Some (very few, I think) do, most have a bathroom for a floor, or a male and a female bathroom for a floor.

bookwormgirl- it does depend on the building. I have a private bathroom (three person room), and so do the other 30-odd people in my dorm, along with the 30 people next door.

However, some larger dorms like Thayer and Matthews don't have private bathrooms. If I had to guess, I'd say that maybe a little over half the rooms overall have private bathrooms (I might be completely off).

Over the summer I was at greenough. Utterly spectacular. There was the complete separation of a door between the two rooms in our suite. Some may say it takes away from the college experience, but it sure is easier to stay up if your roomie wants to sleep. OO and theres this little market just around the corner that sells the best strawberries.

"do the upperclassmen houses have complete singles? thanks."

Currier House is the only dorm where every single room is a single. (I should know, I lived there for three years!)

Other houses have various proportion of singles. The River Houses are the most crowded, with some four person suites with two doubles (sometimes with bunkbeds.) I guess they figure you're paying for the convenience.

By the way, I am partial to Thayer, my freshman dorm. Most are two person suites, with a large shared bedroom and a huge common room. Lots of space. It is also very close to everything, and, unlike Canaday, has an old-time harvard feel to it (Canaday is modern and kind of ugly.)

It is kind of a hassle if your roommate sucks (like mine did.) On the other hand, it is the best way to ease into college life if you aren't used to living with other people. (unlike wigglesworth, which is very cramped-- ie you have a lot of roommates.)

I seem to recall Hurlbut has mostly singles around a huge common room. I visited a friend there once--- nice singles, with about 15 rooms off a huge common room.

"i ask mainly because the beds do not look very good for your back or comfortable. can anyone comment on this? thanks."

I never had a problem with my bed in four years. perfectly comfortable, if a little institutional. (Ie you're not getting a TempurPedic, but they are still perfectly fine.)

totally agree with muchlikeadreamer, wigglesworth is really cozy, plus you dont have to share your bathroom with a dozen ppl, which btw sucks! just dont go for the first floor rooms if you have choice, because things can get stolen from your open windows pretty swiftly. infact closed windows are very easy to open from the outside :d

Nope, you're wrong. Mather does have a large number of singles, that is true, and the other two Quad houses also have a lot of singles, but not ALL singles. I do believe every single room in Currier is a single. There are some doubles etc in the other two quad houses.

Currier has the most singles, followed by Mather, followed by north(PfoHo) followed by Cabot, followed by Adams.

Of course, Mather looks like a maximium security prison, and the rooms look like prison cells, so you have to weigh your pluses and minuses!!!

Whenicomearound WISHES Eliot were the best house, but he's secretly jealous of nearby Kirkland.

It's OK. Both Admiral and whenIcomearound have the right to be as delusional as they want to be. It's a free country.

But they both know that Currier, of course, is the best House!
