If you use the word "waffle" in your application essay, you'll automatically get accepted.

There is no minimum GPA or SAT score necessary to get accepted to any Ivy League school. However, in general, people who get accepted to an Ivy League school take the hardest possible courseload at their schools, or pretty damn close to it. If your school offers AP or IB courses, take all the ones that interest you. I would say that for the "lower" Ivy League schools, for people without a major "hook", to be competitive requires a mid-A average while taking difficult courses, an SAT score above 2100 (preferably above 2200), and significant involvement in extracurricular activities. Obviously this varies by case and is subjective.

tothetop - actually, the "waffle" advice is pretty much right. Write a stellar essay - an INTERESTING one that isn't self-absorbed or trite - and you can push a "mediocre" application into the "amazing" pile. This is straight from a Yale admissions officer: essays don't just affect who'll be accepted, they determine who the top applicants (admitted early, or given likely letters) will be.

I know. the essay issue is my biggest... well, issue. I think my application looks great, but it's hard to find that inner 'voice' that flows from you when you write a stellar essay...
