Hey! I really want to go to Harvard and I was looking for possibly some advice from some accepted kids on how to get there. I greatly appreciate it!
About me:
african-american/from Maryland/public school/rising junior

ok so here goes:

GPA: 3.93/4.0 (UW) 4.4 (W)
PSAT: 220
AP: Government-took the class (5), Human Geography-Self Study (5), Psychology-Self Study (5)

Here are my clubs/Activities

Junior Statesmen of America (founder/president)
FBLA (MD State officer/school parliamentarian)
Drama (good roles and hopefully better now that i'm gonna be a junior)
Piano (student at Peabody & played for 9 years)
Band (first chair/wind ensemble - flute)
Philosophy club (founder/president)
Ecology Club (VP)
SGA (rep to the board of ed)
County student council (health/social issues coordinator)
Cure club (VP public affairs)
Young Democrats (founder/president- currently raising money for clinton)
Best Buddies

- Selected for a couple prestigious leadership programs in my county
- passions lie within the arts (i do lots of art, plays, music)
- did Summer@BrownUniversity this summer
- starting research at Johns Hopkins in psychology this year
- I'm a member of the Maryland Technology Honors Society
- I founded a tutoring service (about 2 hours per week) plus some volunteer tutoring @ church on sundays

At this point you should not be worried about getting into a particular college. Focus on working hard and being successful in school and in your activities, and then when the time comes you will be in a great position to get accepted to top universities. You appear to be on the right track, so just keep it up.

My advice would be to not look at specific colleges until the second half of your junior year. Use the time you have now to focus on the heavy workload and standardized tests of the year ahead. When I was in the summer between 10th and 11th grade I didn't think I would like Harvard, but now I am going there in the fall. Keep up the good work and good luck.
