Is this essay topic too controversial?

I'm thinking of writing one of my essays on how it was for me, a homosexual, to grow up in the South (specifically, Georgia). I'm not sure how this will be taken by colleges. What do you think?

not too controversial, definitely not for harvard. if you dont make it sound cliche and the tone is right, it could be very nice.

It's not controversial, but do not write anywhere in your essay "I have not told anyone about this before... but I am going to tell it to you." Also keep in mind that if you have other topics, entertain them as well. Be careful about sounding too whiny - they don't want you to drown in all your disadvantages, they want you to talk about how you overcame them. Be careful about stereotypes as well.
