alchemymom has already posted some of her daughter's amazing stats. She had a 2400 SAT/ 36 ACT/ and 3 800 SAT IIs - incl. Math and I think, Physics. Add on to that extraordinary ecs etc, and perhaps you will feel a little less skeptical...

From Today’s Crimson:

Harvard has sent out 217 of these (Likely) letters so far, and “all but ten” of them have gone to athletes, according to Fitzsimmons. … Fitzsimmons says that for non-athletic likelies, the admissions office is primarily motivated to reach out to applicants who might not otherwise attend. According to Fitzsimmons, academic likely letters are often sent to students “who might not think Harvard was even in the cards.”

Interesting that they would just now be sending out likelies to non-athletes as article suggests--considering colleges will be giving out formal diecsions in just a copule of weeks anyway. I would imagine then they really did want to look over the entire pool and pick out the "best of the best" if you will.

"Still on the phone, Link told her mother she had been accepted. “She lied down, banged on the floor, and tried not to scream,” Link said. —Staff writer Lingbo Li can be reached at lingboli@fas.harvard.edu.

This just proves that they're "lying" about it.

If you did some searching, you would have found this in one of alchemymom's posts re ECs. In addition, the article mentions that her daughter is an accomplished harpist.

"My daughter's most important EC was something we created on our own. She is obsessed with Shakespeare, and from sophomore through senior years she taught a couple of weekly classes to home schooled students. She has over 40 students. She also produced a big Shakespeare festival each spring, and directed many of her students in full length productions. She adapted the plays, held auditions, cast the actors, worked with the actors on costumes, scenery, props, sound and lighting effects. She submitted a supplemental group letter of recommendation from the parents of 19 of her students, basically describing the ways her mentoring changed their kids' lives. I think this was an important reason why she's already been admitted to Harvard and Yale."
