getting my little sister a CC account?

Hey there!

I wish I had discovered College Confidential when I was younger, I am a senior now, and I wish I had spent more time studying that goofing off!

My little sister is really brilliant, and she has set her heart on the Ivies. She is currently in seventh grade at the moment. Her friends and extra currics are pretty distracting, so I am scared that she'll end up getting cozy on the path of procrastination.

Do you think it would be a good idea to set up an account for her? I do not want to pressure her or anything, but the lack of competition and hard working kids at her school is starting to influence her own work ethic. I just want her to see that they are other kids out there that she will have to compete with, to see what their sats and gpas are etc.

or do you think I'm pressuring her from a young age?? aah, im just so scared because I'll be at college next year, and I don't want her to get influenced by her mostly- carefree friends.

thank you! =]

I'd wait til high school. No need to pressure her. Middle school is like time off before part time work in high school imo.

Wait until high school, if at all.
She's only in seventh grade... this doesn't guarantee that she'll start procrastinating, and there's no need for her to start stressing out this early. Middle school is pretty easy so hanging out with friends a lot is no big deal.
Plus, some people on this site blow things out of proportion (e.g. "omg I got a B+! am I set for community college?"). Just encourage her to keep her work up and remind her to keep her priorities straight, and she'll probably be fine

Don't even tell her about CC for another 3 years. It will warp her mind. You are her role model, she will learn more about the application process and from your experiences in college than here. Let her be herself, not modeled after what an Ivy might want.

I wouldn't pressure your younger sibling too much. My younger sister (she's 16, I'm 19) is a dedicated student, but usually does the opposite of what I suggest, just to be contrary. She's just at that age, you know?
