I think the med school has an even lower admit rate...

PS: Are you making plans for Harvard grad, assuming that you have been rejected? Come on, think optimistically. I know it is hard. This article disheartened me, too, but we cannot change anything now. Let's just hope that the decision is favorable.

This highights that if you want a decent chance at the upper and mid Ivies, Stanford, and Duke you should defintely apply via their ED or EA program. That is definitely the mnessage we will tell our two junior twins based on stats like this.

^The EA rate for regular applicants is not much higher though. Think about it...
Harvard admitted 772 students early (or something fairly close to that number). The admit rate was about 17%. This may sound really high and definitely higher than 3%, but if you think about it twice you will get the ostensible quality of that data. During the EA cycle a lot of the accepted students are legacies, recruited athletes and URM's. Also, the non-hooked applicants in the EA pool tend to be a bit stronger than the ones in the RD pool, so if one is an "average" Harvard applicant, then the chance might not be that higher during EA as it seems. In fact, if you are surrounded by weaker applicants in the RD pool, your application will have a greater chance to stand out. So, I don't know...

PS: Talking about "average" and "weaker" Harvard applicants is kind of...strange?!

I wish I would have applied EA to Harvard. I wasted it on Yale (deferred), which turned out to be more selective than Harvard. Now with such a low Harvard RD rate, I get the worst of both worlds.

This also means the other Ivies will also have lower RD rates and overall lower acceptances rates due to the expected higher yield rates etc., hard to believe admissions have become even more of a crapshoot.

Wow. This just ruined my day. HOWEVER...

Correct me if my reasoning is wrong, but the article seems to assume that this year's RD matriculation rate will be ~80% like last years. However, it seems to me that if we have EA this year, that also should mean RD's matriculation should be LOWER (since the most hardcore aspiring Harvardians have been accepted EA and will be matriculating there). Therefore, I don't think that the overall matriculation rate should be much different than last years, with or without EA. EA merely takes the applicants that are more likely to matriculate from the RD pool.

I seriously hope that the Admissions Office takes that into consideration...unlike the authors of that Crimson's article... Otherwise, we will have an excessive number of unnecessary waitlistees.

^^^Please tell me you are correct!!! 3% is just wayyy too depressing. I say we should look at Yale's normal regular decision rates to get an idea of Harvard's. Man 3%....3%....THREE PERCENT. Ahhh well there is always Grad school!

3% is like being a box of 100 people and having to ruthlessly fight - and win - against 97 of them..... if you can just picture that in your head... okay I'm not making this any better, sorry
