I started an social action organization freshman year. It has since grown, in my opinion, to make considerable change and in response I have done several national interviews, written articles in major publications, and have spoken at conferences.

The problem is--well, it is a big problem, I got two semester Fs in a math class. BUT, it was only because I was taking the class online before I was enrolled in the class at school so I did not think the grade in class would show up. I got a 0 for the in-class grade, and a 85 for the online class I assumed would only show up on my transcript.

Here are my stats:

Class Rank:Top 13% in large decent public school
SAT:2340
EC: The aforementioned

My guidance counselor is willing to explain the situation, but do you think it will be a huge red flag?

Explain that on your essays? That's the only way to make up for it I think.

Don't waste your essays on the Fs. Explain them in the additional information part of the CA.

It seems like there was some confusion regarding the schedule. You took the class online. Why didn't you drop the course at school? Your GC approved this? Maybe you can get the in class course removed by speaking with your GC. You took the class online right?

You need to ask GC if in-class grade can be removed. Since GC approved on line class and you got an 85, see if that can be grade listed. Explain your confusion. If you do not get anywhere with GC, have your parents speak to GC.

It sounds like the situation is more of an incomplete than an F. Can the school change the grade to incomplete? I would talk to your district....start with the school, but then perhaps go on the speaking with those at the district level about the problem.

The OP has already talked to GC. If counselor explains the situation, then you don't have to care about those F's

The 85 in the on-line class is more problematic than the 0, which can be explained away (mostly).

I was suggesting asking GC to remove the in-class grade. I think GC is partially responsible for the confusion since GC approved on-line course and it was not made clear to OP what was to transpire. It is also possible the in-class course should not have even been on the schedule in the first place. And shoboemom is right. You can go to the district if not taken care of by GC or Principal. 85 may be problematic, but not as problematic as an F, or two Fs.

I find it surprising that nobody at Harvard has had an F in high school. Or a couple of bad semesters, for that matter. It's just high school. If the process is truly "holistic", it shouldn't matter *that* much. My $.02.
