I went two years ago (I was an incoming Junior then -- so I'm waiting for my college decisions right now) ...

it was a lot of fun meeting new people and all, and the campus was great.. but i felt that it wasn't worth the money.. i mean, 8000 dollars to take two summer classes? i guess the harvard label was what they were selling.. but anyways, it was definitely a very fun experience, just very pricey..

pennypacker 43... navy_blue, were you a corner room?

i was the reason we got the dorm wide e-mail that didn't allow us to use the balconies. we put patio furnature on ours, it was more a balcony than a fire escape! haha

Guys, is the dorm at Harvard looks good?
What about the professors there?
I might get my result back next week, my careless counselor forgot to send recommendation letter and transcript to admission office, that's why it seems like I am too late to apply. I heard someone had chose the classes alredy.

It was worth the expense. Like many students have said it was just phenomenally fun. I know some kids, including myself, have had trouble adjusting to high school after an amazing summer. I was in Straus and it was a really fun time.

hi lynxzed
im applying to SSP and i prolly will send out my app next week
im a sophmore right now for GA but go to a private school in TN
im gonna apply for the Intro to Biology course (8 credits) because the AP Bio class at my school sucks and i could barely fit it in my schedule with AP Chem, AP English Lang., AP US History, and precalculus honors
by going to SSP i will get credit for a real college bio course and have a better professor
the AP Bio teacher makes his class unbelievably hard and its stupid because most of the class gets Cs and ends up doing bad on the AP test so im gonna be smart and take it at a place thats awesome
ill post back when i get my letter which is like 1 week after the app is complete
hopefully ill get in
i know that they have like no selectivity but i need financial aid too
i think my stats r good enough except for my PSAT (164)
realllly bad psat but i didnt do any practice b4 it, i know i can get a 210+ if i had done a few practice tests and now that is what im scoring on practice tests
other than that im exceptional (perfect gpa this year with all honor courses, great recs and essay that im gonna submit)
hopefully we will see each other in Cambridge this summer

wow! Lot's of Pennypacker people from '04! I was in Pennypacker 23. It was one of the rooms with a fire escape/balcony in the front. Except it wasn't really a balcony at all cuz it was really gross on it...but an awesome room nevertheless!

I have been watching these boards and many assume it is easy to get into SSP. If it's so easy why are there so many rejections. While percentage wise it's not as bad as undergraduate admissions, it's still a fairly small ration of acceptances to rejections.

BTW. I got in for summer 05. I am looking forward to an exciting summer.

the information came from HU. I don't know if it is published although I can't imagine why not. They break it down into two categories. Sophmores in one group and junior/seniors in the other. From what I recall the ratio of accept/reject is best for sophmores, about 26% accept rate vs about 18% for junior/senior.

Really? Then I will be rejected. I thought the acceptance rate is about 80% or something.

hm.. i really think the acceptance rate is MUCH higher than that. b/c out of all the people that i knew who went.. only like one person knew someone who had been rejected from ssp. but then again, usually the only people who apply to ssp are at the top of their class and are qualified to get into the program. so i don't know.

smileforum. I think your are right in that only people who are qualified apply. If you think about it the same rules apply for SSP as regular admission. There are only so many seats available and obviously the school wants to take the creme. Why shouldn't they. Having said that, I do believe that SSP admission, perhaps looks more at the whole student then just their academics. Take a look at both the SSP application and the undergraduate and you will see what I am talking about. AS ALWAYS, this is just my opionion.

it isn't too late to apply. when i got to ssp in 03, i met one guy who applied two weeks before the whole program started.
harvard dorms in general are really nice... although i must say it was strange having to share a bathroom with 7 other guys.
and i think as long as you can pay and don't have straight F's, harvard will accept you.
i hope you guys all have a great time, because i certainly did!
