| I can't log in to the admissions website...it's not loading for me. Busy servers? Can anyone else log on?
Anyway, doesn't matter, got the beautiful email telling me that I got accepted. Can't believe it. I couldn't stop screaming, haha. |

| Decision: Accepted Objective:- SAT I (breakdown): 800 800 800
- ACT: N/A
- SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 US History, 770 Physics, 720 Math 1
- Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.98
- Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/500
- AP (place score in parenthesis): World History, US History, Physics B (all 5s), taking Gov, Calc BC, Computer Science, English Literature, Italian, and Physics C this year
- IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
- Senior Year Course Load: APs listed above + Chorus
- Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing amazing. Some Harvard Model UN awards, National Italian Exam, National Merit Finalist, etc.
Subjective:- Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Model UN, Mathletes (VP), World Language Honor Society (Prez), National Honor Society (Treasurer), Key Club in 10-11, county math team
- Job/Work Experience: Assistant camp counselor, tutoring.
- Volunteer/Community service: Practically nothing...just a few hours from Key Club over the years and a little from NHS/mentoring program this year
- Summer Activities: Just a regular old assistant day camp counselor
 - Essays: Both were solid, though not amazing. One was about my MUN experiences (humorously starting with me walking into a pole...), the other about my lifelong love for math. Short response was about World Language Honor Society
- Teacher Recommendation: Fabulous, as far as I know
- Counselor Rec: Good I guess?
- Additional Rec: Sent 3 teacher recs, all were good.
- Interview: Went surprisingly wonderfully. Just a very laid-back coversation about myself; the woman lived in my town and said she'd never interviewed someone that good from my town. (Although...I did lock my keys in my car prior to the interview and not realize it...)
Other- State (if domestic applicant): NY
- Country (if international applicant):
- School Type: OK public. About 4-5 to Cornell, maybe 1 or 2 to Dartmouth/Brown in a given year out of 500.
- Ethnicity: White
- Gender: Female
- Income Bracket: Upper middle
- Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing
Reflection- Strengths: Numbers, teacher recs
- Weaknesses: No "above and beyond" ECs or awards. Practically no research/community service
- Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Sometimes, just a 4.0 and a 2400 will do it. And I suppose I came across as a "real person" in my mildly humorous essays, as well.
General Comments: Congrats to all who were accepted, and if not, don't be discouraged! I was also accepted to Yale EA and Cornell, but I was waitlisted at Princeton and Upenn. |

| I cannot believe I got in.
2120 SATs
Female Asian.
I thought it would be impossible. Especcially after getting waitlisted at Columbia and Dartmouth (both which I thought would be easier). |

| Decision: Rejected
Objective:
* SAT I (breakdown): 2290 (760/770/760)
* ACT: 32 (did not send, I don't think)
* SAT II: 630 (math II) 760 (english literature) 730 (us history)
* Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.83 (4.85 W)
* Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 21/451
* AP (place score in parenthesis): 3 AP's (all four's); taking 5 more this year; two of these AP's will have been self-studies
* IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
* Senior Year Course Load: AP Macro, AP Literature, AP Bio, AP Micro, AP Calc BC, Yearbook
* Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar, National Merit Finalist, some minor regional/local science fair/research recognition
Subjective:
* Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): yearbook (editor-in-chief this year; design editor last year), involved in youth group&church (in/have been on worship team for both, play on the church coed softball team in a club league, taught Sunday School for past two years), gymnastics (only one year in high school),
* Job/Work Experience: None
* Volunteer/Community service: Mainly church work and mission trips
* Summer Activities: Summers of junior and senior year were spent in a graduate biochemistry lab (one year was required for my Magnet program and the second for fun)
* Essays: Well...I thought they were pretty good?
* Teacher Recommendation: One from AP Bio teacher who's taught me all four years and was my research advisor last year - should have been amazing, esp. because she pretty much said I'm the best kid she's had in terms of how I do on tests/grasp the material; one from US History teacher...who didn't really want me at Harvard, so I think his rec. was pretty generic (he wrote diff. ones for diff. schools); optional one from my research professor of two years, should have been pretty good as well
* Counselor Rec: Solid
* Additional Rec: described earlier
* Interview: Guy was genial enough; I think he was rather impressed with my familiarity with Harvard/its programs, etc. and how I could talk about different subjects...but I don't think I really stood out that much simply b/c there are other people more amazing
Other
* State (if domestic applicant): SC
* School Type: Public
* Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese)
* Gender: F
* Income Bracket: over $200K
* Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): urh...nope, i got nothing
* Strengths: Solid SAT scores...pretty well-rounded, female doing research
* Weaknesses: Math II SAT was REALLY low; I was pretty much a typical Asian candidate (sciency...high SAT score, etc.) and a little too well-rounded, I think...if I'd had one strong suit that really stood out, I might've had a better chance
* Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: (shrugs) Who knows? I wasn't expecting it...in the minutes in between when I got my letter and others posted acceptance/rejectance/waitlisting, I almost thought I had a chance.
General Comments: Congratulations to everyone who got in and will go there! I hope you have loads of fun...and who knows, I may apply to Harvard for grad school/med school in four years. |
