D was waitlisted but will not be taking a spot - she's going to Yale. We found it very interesting that all of her friends were accepted to only their top choice ivy and rejected/waitlisted by all others.

For red remote: You have a great profile, and will be successful in life with your business skills--sometimes academia does not value financial acumen. You'll find a great school!!

And....rejected. Totally expecting it. Those Harvard guys can sure spot someone just 'wondering' if they can get in really easily.

Whatever, I got into USC Film which is 10x more competitive than Harvard so I wasn't planning on going anyway.

Rrrrrrejected. I'd post my stats, but I can hardly see through the tears...just kidding.

I'm not surprised in the least.

4.0 UW GPA, Ranked 1/530, 2320 SAT, 8 APs, National Merit Scholar, Drum Captain of a competitive marching band, helping all the little children, blah blah blah wasted youth blah blah.

This admissions stuff is just ridiculous. So my advice: be amazing, work impossibly hard for four years, and then make a deal with the Devil or something.

Subjective:
  • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): many and varied... see essays
  • Job/Work Experience: none listed on app
  • Volunteer/Community service: 200+ hours at English immersion camp for Spanish teens; 360+ completed for school (too meet 150 hr grad requirement)
  • Summer Activities: mostly moving. Also mentioned houseboating with church, volunteering at camp (^) and cross-country camping with family.
  • Essays: about moving and how it has affected ecs, and me on a broader scale, other one about my musical interests and how they reflect my experiences
  • Teacher Recommendation: 5, all VERY strong... one teacher calls me her "soul sister", one offered to adopt me so I didn't need to move.
  • Counselor Rec: Not quite as personal, but very supportive.
  • Additional Rec: my school's director wrote me a letter after his visit to Harvard and meeting with admissions folks
  • Interview: 4 hours long, very intense, with head of Munich's Harvard club. He was very impressed and wrote a letter in addition to the standard interview report form.
Other
  • Country (if international applicant): American citizen in Germany
  • School Type: small, private international school
  • Ethnicity: white
  • Gender: female
  • Income Bracket: ~100k
  • Hooks : 3 high schools in 3 countries in 4 years
Reflection
  • Strengths: unique situation, good essays, lots of people gunning for me
  • Weaknesses: scores, ec's not "deep" enough
  • Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My director inquired a few weeks ago, got a personalized email back from my admissions officer who said that I have "made the best of everything", so I'm going to guess it's the moving and still carrying a 4.0, etc.
General Comments: Good luck to everyone else!
