| hi all, I've been reading this thread for the past week, and I just registered as a CC member so I can post. I just got a call from a Harvard admissions counselor and was informed that I had been taken off the waitlist!!! I thought I'd share with everyone here and I'm sure you all will have questions for me. I will check this thread regularly to answer them the best I can, but good luck to everyone!!! |

| ^ Wow congrats dude. That's amazing!
Did you send any additional info or anything like that? Also, did you contact your regional admissions officer? |

It's absolutely fine to do so. I did (I actually sent a lot of stuff to (him/her)), and from what I can tell, my rep did not respond unfavorably. I think Harvard knows that this rep information is very "leaky"; they won't think you're a brownnoser if you contact your rep. It probably varies, though; find someone who has the same reader you do. |

Are you a legacy or some extremely exceptional case (i.e., your grades changed massively)? How did you get off the waitlist so early? |

| Congratulations! That is absolutely amazing! Did you ever get confirmation of sending things?
To whomever asked, yes. A person in the admissions office told me the statistics in the New York Times were incorrect and that they would be releasing their own statistics shortly. |

| but the NYT stats were from an email that Harvard sent out....
Do you think the "real" stats are better or worse?
I'm sticking with 150-175. |

| Right. Here's the excerpt from the Crimson:
The admissions office will be accepting anywhere from 150 to about 175 students off the waitlist starting tomorrow, with the bulk of waitlist decisions made by the end of this month. At this point, 55 percent of the confirmed members of the Class of 2012 will be on financial aid, up from 49 percent of the current freshman class. |

| thanks for all the congratulations!
To answer some of your questions,
During the regular decision process, my regional admission counselor actually emailed me asking for a recording of me playing the accordion. I had won 2nd place at a national competition and the committee would love to hear me play. So I sent that in, but still didn't make the cut for regular decision. I'm also valedictorian of my graduating class.
After I found out that I was waitlisted, I emailed my interviewer, and she passed along my interest to the committee. I also sent in a letter to the admissions counselor that asked for the according. That's all I did.
Brownflavors, I got an email from the same admissions counselor (as you can probably tell by now, she was really nice and absolutely phenomenal) who told me "thank you for your note [my letter], I'm sure it'll be very helpful to the committee's decision".
emmabelle, I actually got the call around 7:00 pm. |

| I have no legacy or any connections.
O yea, one more thing that probably boosted me was I have a good friend who's a first year at Harvard, she actually wrote a letter for me to the admissions committee, I haven't read the letter, but she said it was "really good" |
