Pre-Orientation Programs

Just wondering...has anyone gotten into any of them yet? I know that the deadline for most of them hasn't yet approached...but Dorm Crew has rolling admissions...

It says in the brochure Dorm Crew is hard work. Can anyone comment on their experiences?

My roommate did dorm crew and loved it..she said it was a lot of hard work, they're not exaggerating. All you do all day is clean the dorms, which can possibly/probably be gross, and it gets tiring...but she also said that everyone bonds from how tough the work is, so you meet a lot of people...and make money! It all depends on whether or not you're actually willing to do physical labor.

hmm, I like bonding and meeting new people...but cleaning bathrooms? Gosh, I know I'm not high class or anything but they don't advertise the program too well to students. Anyone thinking about doing the Urban Program?

I know that cleaning bathrooms may seem yucky...
but hey, you're doing it with 200 other incoming freshmen!

D2 hopes to do FOP. D1 did FAP two years ago, for which you have to compete for one of 40 spots, but it looks as if inclusion in FOP is available for the asking?

Yeah, I think a lot of people get into FOP...at least I've never heard of anyone getting turned away..and I know tons of people who did it and loved it and are now even FOP leaders. It's much different than FAP because it doesn't rely on talents in the arts, so you can get in without competition.

I was about to commit, but I don't do well with cleaning up after myself, so I don't know how I'm going to clean up after others... I'm waiting to hear from FOP...

Did you guys apply by email or online?

I read about FOP in the packet but it wasn't exactly clear about what they did. Do they camp out in the wilderness for a week? Is the whole day comprised of hiking/canoeing? What about food?

Dorm Crew seems like a great time to make friends and explore Boston. However, the whole cleaning up idea doesn't bode well with me. I could do yardwork or lay bricks, but cleaning bathrooms I find a little too repulsive.
