I once heard that a Harvard librarian was asked what Harvard's library system could achieve with a million dollars. The librarian replied that they would need ten times that much to even think about a new project.

But hey, if you can afford to buy your way in, then my tuition is probably chump change for you. Mind if I borrow a little? :P
yes, that is true for practically all the ivy league schools, plus MIT, stanford, etc. But I would probably say it has to be a minimum of a couple million for your acceptance chances to go up.
You need to donate 1 million plus in order to get onto the Committee of Undergraduate Resources, the high-roller donor group (http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=523313). I hardly think you would need to be one of the 200ish members of COUR to get a kick in your admissions though. A mere six figure donation would probably be sufficient...
