Has anyone received their housing assignments yet? My son did notice on facebook that several students have already received theirs. We're in Calif and nothing here yet.

Best wishes for those waiting.

I'm in Cali too. We'll almost certainly be the last to know. I'm hoping for an e-mail.

    white rabbit,

Where about in Calif are you from. We're from Southern O.C. Do you think they are going to send an e-mail? I thought it would be through snail mail.

I think that White_ Rabbit means that he/she hopes that his/or her roomates emails the information to him/her.

I'm from Central California, in the mountains. If your son is a member of the Harvard Class of 2012 facebook group, people have begun to post who their roommates are. Also, the rumor appears to be that they were mailed yesterday morning through priority mail. So we should be looking at tomorrow or Saturday.

    aznprincess,

Where are you living next year? My son has his favorites and his not so favorites.

I guess he'll have to wait until tomorrow or Saturday. He's very very anxious to know.

    Guitars,

I'm living in Pennypacker (yes, the farthest dorm). However, I think the in-suite bathrooms will compensate. aha. I hope the real mailing will come by Saturday.

aznprincess, I don't know much about the dorms. My son has read up on some, but we'd like to get some "first hand" knowledge. So, if any current Harvard students would like to give a littl detail about each of the freshman dorms, that would be great.

My Dr. lived in Hurlbutt while she attended H and she loved it. She said they are very large and the set up was nice.

I lived in Thayer and really liked it. It's the only dorm that has long hallways (guys one end, girls the other) instead of the upward entryways like the other dorms, making for a very social building. It also has an elevator, bonus on move-in day. :) And, the common room in Thayer is very nice-complete with a full kitchen, large TV, pool table and study rooms. If anyone gets Thayer, let me know and Ill give you more info.

    Good luck!!

    Beach,

Is your dtr happy with what she received? My son is still waiting, we're in Calif. He is stalking the mailman :)

Yes! She is in Mower. Does anyone know much about the layout? She has three roommates (so 4 total in the suite) with 3 bedrooms and in suite bath. She is at work so has not had a chance to contact her roommates.

Massachusetts Hall is perhaps the most unique dorm. It's the oldest (1721) and most historic building on campus - athough Hollis (1763) gives it a run for its money. It's also by far the smallest - housing only 25 students now (it was 45 when my daughter lived there). And such a small group makes for forming a very tight-knit friendship among the entire group that lasts for the full four years - long after they have all dispersed to their upper class Houses.

Also, Mass Hall kids often contrive to "accidently" meet celebrities and other distinguished visitors out on the sidewalk as they are coming in or out of the University President's office that is located on the ground floor of Mass Hall.
