Chance Thread and responses: why they dont matter

So I am grounded tonight from doing anything and lately I have been obsessed with CC. so I decided to search stats profiles. I searched all 2013 H applicants. and I guess what I found? All applicants with SATs or ACT equivalents above 2150 were nearly identical except for about 10.

Obviously I am generalizing, but I dare you to look at all 103 profiles of those who are applying to Harvard and see whether you can tell you are going to get in or not (condition: you must click on every single profile unless they display no SAT or GPA or rank). It's insane. There's no way for us to know who will get in. All we can do is give suggestions on how to improve others' resumes.

The deciding factor between us will be the essays and the recs and how well we package our ECs and show our passion. and theres no way to show that on our site without having some bias from the applicant. Oh well. we can always dream...

Ehhhh, crapshoot isn't the right word. It seems that way to us, but the adcoms get paid to do this. They know what theyre doing and what the wants and the needs of the school are. I'm just saying, it's impossible for us (the applicants) to know/accurately guess who has the best shot at getting in.

I've never understood why chance posts and threads are so popular. Why would anyone think that some random anonymous person on the internet is any better at judging their chances than they are themselves?

lmao, I'm one of those ten who have less than 2150...2140 close enough haha, but I agree with the OP...I am guilty of chance threads, but it is true that the other CCers can't tell whether we will get in or not b/c we aren't admissions officers

I'm guilty too. I did chance threads early in my CC career :P but they serve no practical point. They are meant for confidence boosters and reassurance, but no such thing exists, except for maybe that college admissions chances thing, go 4 ivy, which still seems like a scam to me.

But hey...if you get someone who's from Harvard or got into harvard to look at it, maybe they can get you some tips, you know? Like if your expectations are realistic or not.
and Millerl1te, I've looked at the statsprofiles, and after browsing through like 30 of them, I just ended up more confused and infuriated about the admissions process
