Decision: Accepted

Objective:
  • SAT I (breakdown): 750 CR, 780 M, 800 WR
  • ACT:
  • SAT II: 780 M2, 760 M1, 740 Ch, 730 Ph
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0):
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Counselor estimated top 2% i think
  • AP (place score in parenthesis):
  • IB (place score in parenthesis):
  • Senior Year Course Load: GCE A level candidate: Math Physics Chem History, English, History honors (prediction straight As)
  • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None too spectacular. No sciency olympiads. 1 international writing award 1st prize, Singapore odyssey of the mind etc.
Subjective:
  • See my post in the Georgetown forum. For super-detailed, find my post in the Yale forum dated 16 Dec
Other
  • Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes. Got more than 90% but i've got better offers.
  • Intended Major: Political science
  • State (if domestic applicant):
  • Country (if international applicant): Vietnam
  • School Type: In Singapore - large public. Very competitive
  • Ethnicity: Asian
  • Gender: F
  • Income Bracket: Combined total 8k per annum
  • Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): 4 years high school in Singapore on full scholarship and all the life experiences i got.
Reflection
  • Strengths: I think i have a certain level of maturity that may not seem obvious from the way i look, and is definitely not something many 18 year olds have. I have a rather well-rounded profile, with major awards in both sciences and social sciences. I know what i want and i do well at it. I also have a personality. I'm quite funny in person and i know how to make conversations.
  • What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: Highlight the well-roundedness. My focus now is definitely on politics/history and english.
  • Weaknesses: I've heard that you need intl olympiad prizes for H and i only had one writing competition to my name. I don't think i'm anything spectacular though. Seriously.
  • Why you think you were accepted: I dont know! Its all a mystery My interviewer gave me a heads up tt ONE of the committee members was voting for me two weeks ago, that was pretty funny. He was an awesome person and his report for me was (in his own word) terrific.
  • Where else were you accepted: Princeton (likely), Yale (EA), Columbia (likely), Dartmouth (likely), Georgetown SFS. Those are all that i applied for during RD round, withdrew the rest after EA decision.

General Comments: I don't know! I'm really overwhelmed. I woke up at three AM (its 630 where i'm at) awaiting H's decision only. It was quite nerve wracking but ultimately very satisfying. Now its the time to decide!

• Teacher Recs: One was really short (only one page), and the other was basically a list of all the things that were in my application already.
• Counselor Rec: Really really good. My counselor told them I was the best student he had ever seen in his whole 25 years of teaching and how I would be such a great addition to the school, and all that other good stuff about my sociability, etc.
• Supplement Information (Y/N): Y—an extra essay, as mentioned above, and a recommendation from a former Texan Representative to the House of Representatives (who was under consideration for Navy Secretary and is an alumnus of my high school).
• Interview: AMAZING.
• Hook (recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): Nobel Prize? lol not that far, but I am low income.
