Harvard SSP RUINED My Chances At Princeton!

I went to Harvard SSP...Now I wish I hadn't.

Princeton IS WHERE IT'S AT...but they will see my app and see Harvard SSP and the portion of my essay which mentions Harvard SSP (I had to...P asks for summer experiences)...and will be like, this kid wants Harvard...no love for Princeton (not true!). GTFO.

Can I send them a love letter detailing every crevice of campus?!

No one is going to feel any degree of sympathy for you because you had the opportunity to attend Harvard SSP. If you make it clear that you want to be at Princeton, things will be fine, but saying "Woah is me, for I have had the misfortune of attending summer school at Harvard" isn't exactly the best way to build empathy.

I wouldn't worry too much. Princeton does not have a summer program like Yale's or Harvard's. Going to Harvard SSP (as long as you did well) can only show Princeton (and any other school) that you are ambitious and can perform college work.

Breuer2014, what are you trying to say? I'd appreciate it if you just say it.

Code H, maybe I'm not catching on, but I'm thinking you must be joking. Just on the off chance that you truly are concerned, how could it possibly hurt your Princeton chances if you took a college course in high school at a prestigious university (as long as you did well)? Unless you did poorly, or if you wrote in your essay that "Harvard is the only school I would ever want to go to," I don't think you have anything to worry about. Being motivated enough to get accepted and participate in SSP, and doing well can only help you. Anywhere you apply.

You must think that the P'ton admissions are a bunch of petty jerks -- to penalize you for attending Havard SSP. 1) they aren't. They are very secure with their "brand" and the fact that applicants are involved with other peer institutions isn't new. You're worrying for nothing 2) if they were, then you wouldn't really want to go there now, would you?

For those of you who do not remember Code H from his last thread in the Harvard forum, here it is:

Elitism Rampant At Harvard

I don't get this kids agenda, logic, or humor. As for this particular thread, wouldn't the logical place to post it be the Princeton Forum? There, you know that the fellow CCers have interest in Princeton and more might have knowledge about your concerns and the Princeton application process. Posting it in the Harvard forum makes me wonder.

As for impact of Harvard SSP on your admissions, what is mentioned repeatedly on CC is that Harvard SSP won't help you to even get into Harvard. Therefore, I doubt it will hurt your application to any other school.

Assuming you ARE actually serious, that is insane. I went to SSP and my supplementary essay was about my experience. It got me into Harvard, Georgetown, and Brown (the only competitive schools to which I applied and sent that essay). I just generalized my experience. They all pride themselves on pretty much the same thing - learning from other students, that sort of thing. I focused on that. For Harvard, I played up my specific experiences while for the others I was a slightly more vague. For example, I referred to Widener and Annenberg in my H essay, and 'the library' and 'the dining hall' in another.

Lord, calm down.
