Stats:
  • SAT: 2030 (You better believe it! SATs aren't everything)
  • SAT II: Math IIc: 800 Physics: 800
  • GPA: 92.6% (Indian System, Not sure what that'd translate to)
  • Rank: Top 3
Subjective
  • Essays: Different I guess. About "blurring the lines" between art science and engineering
  • Teacher Recs: One was very positive. Other one was patchy.
  • Counselor Rec: Pretty fantastic I think
  • Supplementary Material: Reccomendations from my advisor professors in Math and Physics (From the Indian Instiute of Technology) which basically said I knew Math and Physics 2 years ahead of my time
  • Interview: I live in India for god's sake!! hehe
  • Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): I guess the supplementary materials said what my test scores couldnt.
Personal
  • Location: Madras India
  • High School Type: Private, Tiny and Rubbish
  • Ethnicity: Indian
  • Gender: Male
Other
  • Extracurriculars: Indian/Western Classical Violinst, Vocalist, Part time programmer/computer maintainence, Tennis, Sprinting, Photography, Network administration for a company and VoIP systems consulting
  • Awards: Nationally ranked well up on a few occasions in Math/Physics/Science olympiads, Couple of National Quiz wins, Multiple track and field gold medalist, A couple of computer projects for a couple of companies, Some other stuff that I put there too lazy to remember
  • Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:

If the SAT scores were everything there's not a chance in hell I would have gotten in. I'm pretty sure I will have the lowest SAT score of any admitted student this year (there is a weird reason as to why its so low but thats for later)

If you didnt get in, it means nothing. The applicant pool is so self selecting for this place that most likely you will get into a place that is absolutely fantastic. And honestly I think that when you're into the top institutions, you make the difference not the college.

"I have NO idea how I got in"

I'd guess it has something to do with the near perfect SAT and ACT scores and 4.0 GPA

Congratulations.

I got admitted twice with a 2080, 2030 isnt all that low, especially if you have a sink in writing which is not looked at as much as the other two sections. Though kudos for getting in as an international; thats very tough.

^^Thanky...My writing section was the dip but my Math section was only 700...Because...and this is good...I skipped one question but filled in the circle for that question number. So every single question till the end of the section was wrong I think. By the time I realised I couldnt change it.

Stats:
  • SAT: 2250, 800 Math, 700 CR, 750 Writing
  • SAT II: 800 Math IIC, 800 Physics, 800 Chemistry
  • ACT: N/A
  • GPA: 4.9 weighted? Something like that.
  • Rank: School doesn't rank, but somewhere in the top 10%
  • Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): 5's on AP Calculus BC and Physics B. Also qualified for AIME, though I don't remember my exact score.
Subjective
  • Essays: Very proud of a few. Somewhat unsure about others. To be honest, I did end up having to rush through a couple.
  • Teacher Recs: Teachers say they wrote good things, liked me a lot in class, so I can't complain.
  • Counselor Rec: Also very good. According to her.
  • Interview: Visited the campus and had a nice chat with the dean of admissions. I really liked the guy, he even sent me a nice email to congratulate me on my acceptance.
Personal
  • Location: New York (Long Island)
  • High School Type: Public
  • Ethnicity: Asian
  • Gender: Male
Other
  • Extracurriculars: Bunch of science/math stuff. Also play the cello. Does unicycling count?
  • Awards: Nothing too prestigious. Placed well in local math tournaments, science competitions, etc.
  • Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:

I have to admit I was extremely worried and stressed before Harvey Mudd's decision came in, having been rejected by a handful of the schools I'd applied to. All I can say is I agree with dhruv entirely. If you're strong enough to consider Harvey Mudd, a few rejections should mean nothing; you'll no doubt end up successful wherever you go. Don't let admissions get you down for too long. When you're enjoying life and doing great things next year, you'll realize how pointless stressing over colleges really is.
