  • Supplementary Material: None.
  • Interview: None.

Other
  • Extracurriculars: An insane amount. Theatre (technical direction - e.g. sound, lights), internship at Boeing company, Model United Nations, some website I run, Piano, Clarinet, school engineering club (school has no technology related classes)

Actually, unicycling is a long and revered tradition at Mudd. It would be a hook!

Int'l applicants were emailed on Friday. Everyone else's decisions were mailed. The folks who posted decisions today are all in CA. For MD, I'd expect Monday or Tuesday. We feel your pain!

Stats:
  • SAT: 2270 [800 CR, 750 WR, 720 M]
  • SAT II: 760 Math 2, 680 Chem, 640 Bio M
  • ACT: N/A
  • GPA: 3.28, unweighted. [See "Hook" for an explanation... The GPA didn't matter as much as the gradient, I think.]
  • Rank: N/A
  • Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): AP Literature 4 [pending: AP Bio and AP Calc AB]
Subjective
  • Essays: Stellar; I had to with the GPA that I have.
  • Teacher Recs: Math teacher who had me this year and last year [calculus and pre-calculus, respectively]; history teacher who had me this year and sophomore year [Philosophy and 20th Century American History, respectively]
  • Counselor Rec: Stellar, I imagine.
  • Supplementary Material: Demo CD with original and cover tunes.
  • Interview: Yes, with Ms. Thyra Briggs over the phone.
  • Hook (recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): GPA gradient [pretty terrible grades freshman year and 1st semester sophomore year, pick up 2nd semester sophomore year, straight 4.0 junior and senior year]; quirky Muslim girl doing a substantial amount of interfaith youth leadership work with the ADL; research and community development work on arsenic contamination in the Ganges basin; accomplished musician; etc... My application, in general. Very thought out, just like the other 14.

Personal
  • Location: The Suburbs of Boston, MA
  • High School Type: Public, large, one of the best in New England. Very rigorous.
  • Ethnicity: Bengali American
  • Gender: Female
Other
  • Extracurriculars: See "Hook" [music: piano and voice, both classical and jazz- competitive since I was 8]. Also, theater, creative engineering work with Tufts University, feminist camp [teehee ], youth group, and others- everything fits together, which I think was key.
  • Awards: Nothing too crazy. :P
  • Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Anything can happen; it's all about knowing who you are, what you want, and how the school you're applying to meshes with the such. Do your research and make connections with people who have a say in your decision. Knowing your stuff is imperative for top schools such as HMC.

Just wondering: did anyone else get a note from Ms. Briggs [or someone else] on his/her acceptance letter?

PS: I'm in MA, and I received my envelope in the mail today.

I got in (Hawaii), but I personally don't post stats.

I'm guessing people got a personalized note? My note was about a future statistics project on fantasy football (my common app essay).

  • Supplementary Material: Athletic form (swimmer)
  • Interview: Not really very good actually...I didn't really prepare very well, probably came off as pretty awkward
