How dry is High Point's "dry campus"?

So I learned during a recent tour that High Point supposedly has a dry campus. I also learned that about 40% of kids are in greek life and students said "the parties are awesome" and implied drinking. I'm just curious as to if the dry campus is actually dry or if it's just dry on brochures. Preferably a current student answer here

I think just like any school that if you want to find a party you can find a party.

Dry campus policy is enforced in dorms and around campus. No open containers are permitted while walking around, security will stop you and fine you. If you are 21 you MUST go to security to get a 21 sticker for your campus ID to avoid fines if caught with alcohol. If you are under 21 the campus will enforce a fine and it will go on your student life record.

As luckydog said, we are a college campus, and I wouldn't sit here and lie to you about the presence of drinking on campus. It happens, but it is not out of control at all. The nice thing about HPU's campus is that the greek life party scene is contained to one area of campus. If it's not your thing, don't go over there. There is like a million other things to do on campus. Security is great on campus so they keep a very close eye on this.

Hope that helps!

Agreed. It is, in fact, a college campus, but with that being said, High Point University security is absolutely incredible and will put an end to any underage consumption at the very sight of the occurrence. The campus does not tolerate alcohol, and everything and anything is done to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus. Greek Life is contained in its own portion of campus and the area is constantly monitored to ensure that everyone is abiding by the campus policy...NO EXCEPTIONS!
However, High Point University has a Campus Activities Team (C.A.T) and this team is constantly organizing tons of trips and activities for students on campus.

Honestly it isn't that dry at all. If you are a freshman and you want to drink you will have no problems finding an opportunity at High Point. Security might prevent a few people from drinking but they don't do that much. I honestly have to disagree that drinking doesn't get out of control at High Point, because it does get out of control way too often.

I guess it comes down to who you surround yourself with. Of course there are people who get out of control, but it happens everywhere. Its by no means a majority of the students though. At least in my experience.

Luckydog, can you please message me as I have some questions about your daughter's experience in the Honor's Housing.

we looked deeply into high point last year. a male friend of my daughters goes there this year. he was a party person prior to college and it has not slowed down. many a dorm/on campus picture of him and crews of friends show up weekly on media sites. He loves it there. I don't think they have a lock down on alcohol consumption any different than a non dry campus. My daughters current school is not a dry campus. She is not a drinker. There is underage drinking that goes on there as well. And lots of fines, etc.. as can be expected at any school. "dry campus" sounds nice but don't be fooled by it. I can only comment about one person I directly know but there are many others in the photos I see. I can't imagine it's the only party on campus. If a kid wants to find a party they will, if they don't, they won't.

It's as dry as your child wants it to be.
