Dealing with loss in the family?

So I'm sure I'm not the only one who has lost a member of their family. Yesterday, I lost my favourite grandmother and I'm still reeling from it. It was really unexpected. We're flying over to England tonight to be with the rest of our family. But I was wondering...

How did / do you cope with losing a beloved member of the family? Whether it be a grandmother, or a sibling, or a father or mother. How did you deal with it? How did it affect you as a person? And how long did it take before a semblance of normalcy came back to your family?

I've never had to experience anything like this first hand until recently. In the last four weeks, five people (including myself) have lost family members. Two of my best friends lost their grandfathers, an old friend lost her grandmother, and my best friend lost her uncle. And now my grandmother, completely unexpectedly.

So how did / do you deal with it? I'm still trying to figure it all out..I feel like having a good support network helps, y'know?

My grandfather died last month and I'd never experienced anything similar before. For me, the best thing was to talk about it, because internalizing it and thinking about it wasn't really helping me get over it.

Write a college essay about it.

JOKING JOKING JOKING

My grandfather is diagnosed with Parkinson's and is very weak. Most of us know he isn't going to live any longer.

I've lost both of my grandfathers. My dad's dad, Grandpa, passed the summer before I started 8th grade. Then my mom's dad, Dzedo, passed away in January of 2009. It hurt. I cried. We spent time with family. But it was kind of a relief since they were both suffering prior to death. And last year in English we had to write a memory piece. I wrote about the death of Grandpa. Then later on in the year after Dzedo died, I wrote about that.

Honestly, just getting your feelings out there is the best thing to do. Writing helps a lot. So does talking. So I recommend talking to someone you're close to that will possibly understand or even just writing.
