Thanks a lot, RhythmMeleon! Competition at the local universities can be pretty stiff but I'll see what I can muster up

I hate being the youngest in my grade XD I can't even get my permit yet. JK I love being the youngest but it really annoys me that freshman are getting licenses/permits already when I'm still too young

I'm one of the oldest in my grade. It can be frustrating to see a person who's a rising senior be younger than me. =\

Lots of different ages here on this thread! I still have to try for my permit before I transfer. NC made a new rule about moving from your permit to your license. We have to drive at least 60 hours and hold our permit for at least a year before we can try for our license. It's not that bad of rule since many people can definitely earn 60 hours in a year if they drive at least 1.5 hours a week. But, what makes it terrible for me is that I am transferring to a residential public high school where they don't allow cars! So, if I get my permit, it will just sit and collect dust. I should just wait until I'm 18 to get my license.

This summer, I will be working part time at a science program in my county and the recreation department scorekeeping for summer league baseball games. Then, read as much as I can, shop for clothes and other supplies for boarding school, (hopefully) try for my permit, and just take it easy! Oh, and I am doing a summer male minority leadership program at my boarding school! I think that is it

I've had my license for almost 6 months now, lol. You are supposed to drive for 50 hours with your permit here, but realistically you only need your parents to sign off. So I just drove around until I was comfortable and got my license.

I had to try twice for my test, embarassingly. My first try was almost spotless ... Except a fire truck came roaring by and I didn't honor the move-over law. In my defense no one else around me did it either, lol, although I definitely obey it from now on. Second try was perfect and I got my license.

In my state we take Driver's Ed in school and take the state written test as the final exam. We also do driving with the driver's ed teacher during school and when you do the correct amount of hours (I did like 5) you get a slip that says you completed Driver's Ed. You take it to the DMV, get your permit and that's it. The permit is the same as your license (it's a driver's license that says this is a drivers license on x date). No more tests.

For the first six months on our permit, it's driving with a parent. For the next six months, it's by yourself with only one other person and a 10 o'clock curfew. After that, it's just a regular old license.

I'm really surprised that there are so many of you that don't have your licenses already! Most of the people in my school can already drive by themselves! (I can in August, yay!)

I don't have mine yet, and my birthday was in March. I never want to learn how to drive; I just wish that were practical, haha.

@elle: Yeah, I agree. I am attending a summer program for a month starting in about 3 weeks. I think I will probably apply to some very selective program again next summer.

Out of curiosity...is getting 7th in a national contest worth mentioning in college applications? I never entered the competition to impress colleges. I only did it as a way to make my parents proud. However, my school found it and they seem rather adamant about adding it in.

I'll be the first person in my family to attend to college so this whole college application stuff and adding accomplishments is rather confusing to me.

^ That's definitely a great accomplishment that you should send. What kind of contest was it?

It was for National History Day. I also won one of the special awards in the competition and was thinking of including that and excluding the placing.

Like everyone else posted before, my school also wants us to consider college applications for junior year. It's beginning to freak me out.

So when are you guys taking the SAT/SAT II's/ACT? My parents wanted me to take it Sophomore year, but I didn't want to so I'm probably taking it in October.

I took the SAT about 2 weeks ago. I plan on taking the Math II SAT next December after Pre Calc, the ACT in March and the Biology SAT next June after AP Bio.

Ahh. I'm going to take the SAT in October, ACT in December probably, and the Chem and Math II SAT. Senior year I''ll probably take the French one, though I might take it this year and the Physics one (after AP Physics)
