Um, I am planning to take a lot of tests this year (this is what happens when you plan to apply ED next year). I am focussing on the ACT which I am taking for the first time in December, then April and June (if need be), I expect I will need to take it twice, I am hoping I don't need the June one though am planning incase I do. I will probably take the SAT in March, assuming my PSAT score this year is over 200, just to see how I do and will take some subject tests this spring (Math II, US History and a third one which I have not decided on).

I took the SAT today, and it went really well!

And I'd say the feeling of accomplishment is a good birthday present.

I'm taking the PSAT this month w/o studying to see what I need to improve on. Then, i'll take the ACT in April and June, and Subject Tests in June or 1st semester senior year.

Just wondering, what is your guys' relationship with your counselor and how often do you see them?

At my school, the only times we ever really talk to our counselor are for registering for classes and if there are any schedule conflicts at the beginning of the year. It's just weird seeing people say that their counselor doesn't want them to take the SAT or whatever; at my school, anyone can just go and sign up for whichever date they want and that's as far as it goes.

Also, right now I'm looking at taking it for the first time in January.

At my school you basically never talk to your counselor until you are applying to college if you are not in honors and you see them a lot if you are in honors. We have honors counselors (who are also teachers/just happen to know a lot about college) which are assigned to students and then one regular counselor for the whole school (small school, less then 500 students).
My honors counselor is awesome, I met with her at the beginning of the year to solidify my standardized testing plan/will meet with her in the spring (which is standard for honors students). The only time I saw my regular counselor this year was to pick up an information thing on the ACT and to sign up for a college information session (the college was visiting my school).

My counselor is very nice; she plans everything and is such a huge supporter. She gives you a 4 year plan and is in charge of the AP department. You can come to her and other counselors when it comes to personal problems or if you just want to talk. The only time their really busy is when it comes to Seniors and Schedule changes.

I like talking to my counselor, I mean that's why they're there. They help me plan for school and life and they're good motivators. I love going to see them.

FollowTheReaper: I think I have a good relationship with my counselor. She understands that I and my friends are smart and that we're not the same (academically or personality-wise) as many of her other students. She's a great counselor on the whole. We can seek out our counselor's advice, but they don't require us to go and talk to them (except once in Junior year for like half an hour) -- if you actively go and talk to them then they can be a great help. My counselor was the one who let me test out of first-year chemistry and instead take AP chemistry, and she's always had answers to my questions.

I think it just depends on how you personally get to know your counselor -- you can seek out their advice or just go without it.

My counselor is pretty nice. My school is a bit "quirky", if you will, so he's used to deal with all kinds of people and has given me some pretty good advice.

He wrote a rec letter for me once also and I got in, so that was good too

It's a small school though and he's kind of busy so I don't see him often.

Well my counselor told me to discuss it with my family and I rarely see my counselor as well. She's always busy so whenever I get a chance I try to say hi at least. I know it will be important for me to get a good relationship with her going for next year. But I just got elected president so I think I will be seeing her a lot now I think I'll take the ACT in the spring as well.

Congrats! ^

Honestly, depending on who you are and what you read and how you think and if you remember to like eat breakfast and sleep more than 4 hours before the test (I did this), you can probably pull a 2200+. You will need to be pretty intense about your prep, though, and I don't recommend waiting till 2 weeks before, like I did.

IMO, if you get all the grammar down, get all the math down, memorize all the words in DH 1 and 2 (as an aside- they have way more than 430 and throw in other ones too) and do at least 5 practice tests, you can probably do quite well. Reading books helps too.

My counselor is the best. I talk to her like everyday to discuss college plans. She is one of my biggest supporters

My counselor and I joke every day. I always get to school early and sit in the same chair waiting on the Calc teacher and he's started calling it my office. In other news, I. Want. My. SAT. Scores. NOW!

I wasn't expecting the SAT to be so easy... Then again, I could be kidding myself.
