Oh gosh, just looked and that program looks insanely difficult to be admitted to.

I'm running out of ideas for programs, everything is so expensive! The most my parents are willing to pay is $4000. I have found two things that interest me in that budget.

@Nate42 That is better then me, my parents basically won't pay anything ($500 is their limit). Everything I am applying to is free, offers major scholarships or are local paid internships. BTW guys do you know of any more inexpensive programs (you can't have too many).

@ ArtsyGirl13, what programs do you have down so far?
Also depending on what area you live in, there are different opportunities.
Such as:
Roswell Park Cancer Institute - it's in Buffalo, NY and if you live there it doesn't cost anything
Stanford SIMR - well, at Stanford in Palo Alto, CA (has $500 stipend)
City of Hope - Duarte, CA (has $4000 stipend!?)
Craig Venter - San Diego, CA (has $9.90 salary)
Berkeley SHARP and/or BLIPS at UC Berkeley
Rockefeller SRP in New York, New York
Buck Institute for Novato/Sonoma County (CA) people
Cornell Boyce Thompson SRI for Ithaca, NY
Harvard Public Health - requires Boston residency
Drexel - in Philly

And some free stuff:
UCLA HSSRP
RSI @ MIT

Here's a great resource for a bunch of high school internships (A lot of these are either paid, free, or just need $$ for housing but that will result in at least $1000 needed to spend): High School Internships

Hahaha the only reason I know all this is because I found these last year when trying to find stuff for summer 2012... But like all of them were for rising seniors ^_^

Also idk if this actually works, but you could contact a professor at a nearby uni and get an internship that way. This past summer, I kind of did. But I don't really consider that an internship, since my project was a computer model and I interacted mainly via the web. So yeah.

I'm applying for an internship and the National Cancer Institute where I live, I live about 15 minutes away from it, and the deadline ends around December. I have my two teacher recommendations, resume, essay almost done, and projected senior year plan form almost done. A lot to do, so little time.... :S

Right now I plan to apply to
- Muhlenberg Brain Camp
- Paid internship at The First Tee of Pittsburgh
- Magee Women's Research Institute High School Student Summer Internship Program
- Teen Volunteer Summer Program (Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh)
- National Institutes of Health Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research
- Summer Science Program
- CISV Seminar Camp
- Baylor High School Summer Science Research Program (if I can get a job to pay for the extra costs ahead of time)
- Summer Experience for Students (Coriell Institute for Medical Research) - Also a maybe
- UPCI Summer Academy
- High School and Pre-medical Student Stanford Summer Internship (though I doubt I will get a large enough scholarship even if i am accepted)
- Probably some local museum internships as well (for those I have connections)

So yeah that is my super random/long current list. I wish this years applications would go up already. I don't have a first choice, but my preference would be one of the longer science programs.

@Quidditchcat I will look into the list your provided, also I love the username.

Is anyone here applying to RSI at MIT? The application for that is a pain in the rear end, and the teachers I'm asking for a rec think so too. That's the soonest deadline for me, at January 11th.

ArtsyGirl13,
I have a friend who went to the Stanford Pre-Med/High School Summer Internship, and she said that while she enjoyed the classes, she didn't learn that much. I don't know if we're talking about the same thing. Is it the Shumway Surgical one? I'll be applying to the Baylor program and *maybe* the NIH SIP program (even though I heard it is SUPER DUPER like IMPOSSIBLE to get in... since they kind of hate minors).

Also haha my username. "Cat" is my nickname and favorite animal (lol) and quidditch, well, I love Harry Potter and I really wish quidditch were possible - not the muggle kind but actual broomsticks and flying and what not.

Research at a University, if it's meaningful and you're actually learning stuff, can be a great experience, especially if you can get a LoR.

The thing I've heard about Rosewell Park, is that they're kind of more mean if you're out of the area. I heard a lot of kids with really good stats and recs applied and most of the people that get in are from the general upstate NY area.

I can't apply to RSI Stupid Canadian Government!

I'm currently thinking of applying to the HSHSP at MSU, Clark Scholars and SSP for the heck of it. I think I can apply for TASP too, but while I like the humanities, it's not really my #1 thing and the app requires a lot of essays.

That being said, if you're hardcore into research/have a Prof that you work pretty closely with already, I think you could almost do more by just staying with them and being impressive/getting a good LoR. Unless you live nearby, you probably won't see the Profs at the program very much and it's sometimes hard to write a really strong rec if you've only know someone for 5-6 weeks. I know a kid who turned down some good research programs (not RSI, mind you) and stayed with the person they were currently working with and they now attend Harvard. I was pretty surprised when he told me but he said that "it would be boring to have to relearn stuff and do the intro classes when I already know it" or something like that.

Aah, I guess people have different perspectives.

Yeah it is the same Stanford program, as for NIH SIP I know it seems so competitive, but it also seems so amazing. I will probably end up applying again in college.

I looked at Clark Scholars, but there is no way I will get in (my scores are just too low). Currently I am focussing on programs that care more about grades/ECs then scores.

I'm applying to RSI, I haven't started the Application yet cause I don't have a SAT or PSAT I'm willing to send yet.

I highly doubt I'll get in, but I'll also apply to the GA Governor's Honors program and a program at Vandy.

I'm doing awful so far this year. My GPA through the past two years has been above 4.0 but my first term this year will likely be 3.7 or 3.8 :/

I'm annoyed.

Q1:

APUSH - 91
AP L&C - 96
Computer Repair - 97
AP Chem - 87

Microsoft Apps - 96
Pre-Calc - 86
Chorus - 99

My APUSH teacher said that I'm "capable of higher quality work". She expects me to be able to get high 90s in her class (she told me so a few weeks ago), which I *would* be capable of doing... if I didn't have Chem, PreCalc, and English. And I'm already stressed out because of family stuff as well, which is majorly affecting my grades, so my mind isn't really on school.

adklfsjfdkfs

I still got an A, so my work can't be too low quality.
