A lot of people claim they don't know how to study and I never understood that. All I do is review the material and commit it to memory. For stuff like math and the sciences the key is to get the concepts straight first, and then work on getting good at the calculations. A lot of exams are heavily based on calculations and students can lose their understanding of theory because the concentrate so much on the calculations. It is best to learn both.

The bottom line is committing everything to memory. Get the stuff into your head and make the proper logical connections so that you don't make careless errors on the exams.

Thanks guys. This really helps since it is my first year of real finals. I have heard they are a pain in the butt. Another question. How bad can a final affect your grade? If i have an A in a class and get a B on a final, will it significantly go down?

depends on your school..my school the final is 1/7 of the semester grade, so it's really not worth much, but i know schools where the final is worth up to 30% of the grade

It really depends on the class. For example, in my calculus class, a D on the final dropped your grade 6 percent. But, in my statistics class, the final meant NOTHING. It was just 1/200 part of the overall grade.

Finals can be a pain in the butt, especially if you slacked the major part of the semester. To study...review, review, review, do practice problems (math and science, esp.), know what the final's going to be inside out. Do not let yourself be caught off guard.

review!
science and math, i agree with peecko, do practice problems
If you have good notes, reviewing for subjects like english and history should not be to hard
languages I always use notecards for vocab and write forms and grammar out like a trillion times.

In high school, finals are not that much(20% with the midterm as 10% and final as 10%). But I'm taking college classes also right now, and the midterm for a class is 25% of my grade, and the final is 25%!!! Gosh!

But I have an 89 right now, so if I get an A, I can pull up my grade easily.

I don't know how to study for tests.

At my school, the start the day late and give us an extra long passing period between tests. We also only take three each day. It's actually very relaxing. I like finals.

I study notes, do review problems, look at old tests/quizzes... practice, practice, practice. I basically re-do everything
