Also, for a lot of my matches, I'm in the range, just I'm calling them matches because of how selective they are.

Am I the only one who actually prefers my safety to all my reach schools? Hahaha, I much rather end up there than at Duke which is one of the reaches I have in mind.

Reach: 4
Match: 3
Safety: 2
One of each of my reaches and matches use the same application, and one of my safety schools is waiving their application fee for me. Surprisingly, my dream school (where I'll be applying ED) is actually a match school, not a reach school. =P

Still a Junior here, and my list is probably going to be highly optimistic and unrealistic, but meh:
Reaches: a ton (MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell maybe, Chicago)
Matches: a few (Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan)
Safeties: All the other UCs
It is heavily skewed towards the top; however, if I do well this year in the Science Olympiad, get a 5.0 GPA (6 AP classes), maybe get an officer position in NHS, and possibly get an internship at a lab, I'm positively sure I have a fair shot at a bunch of them.

I'm only applying to 5 or 6 (not sure if I'm doing the last one) because I'm applying ED to my favorite college. I have one safety both financially and admissions-wise, one or two safeties admissions-wise (not sure about FinAid). One match (which I like enough to enjoy going there, it's my #2) and two reaches.
I don't get the idea of doing so many safeties. If they're true safeties, why do you need so many? Find one you'd thrive in, enjoy, have enough money for, and be fine with that one safety. I understand having so many if you're indecisive, not sure about FinAid, etc. but my suggestion, is to focus on a few you really love, both matches and reaches, and one you'd be fine at as a safety. Although, I'm prone to not listening to people, probably to a point that's not the smartest idea.
Oh, and I'd like to add, having a huge variety on your list often is people ignoring weather. If all your safeties are UC's, just as an example (not to pick on you basicspace) and you like California weather, I'd stick to warmer top-rated schools like Stanford, Rice, etc. because while they may not be ivy league, they're almost as good, and if you don't like cold weather you'd be miserable for 3 months in the Northeast. For me, weather doesn't matter that much. I am okay with the South (where I live currently) but I'd prefer the cold. Just a thought to all you applying to so many colleges, make sure you'd fit in at these schools other than just academically.
