Summer job questions galore

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could tell me when's the normal time to start looking/applying for a summer job? And preferally not someplace like McDonalds or anything...more like...library...and there's a Kumon near where I live so maybe that too.

Is April too late? Is now too early?

It seems like alot of people get summer jobs because they have "connections" so is it possible to get a decent job without them?

It really varies by area--I'd talk to people you know that have had summer jobs before...maybe get them to introduce you to the boss at their job, or tell you when they applied.
