History vs Social Studies...?

Hello,
I have looked everywhere for an answer and can't seem to find one. On some websites they say that to go to some colleges you have to have 3 history credits and 3 social studies creadits. I have always thought they were basically the same thing. Could someone please explain the difference.
Thanks!

Social studies is more than history. It includes civics/government, anthropology, geography, economics, sociology, and psychology. Philosophy, law and criminal justice can be included as well.

So when a college asks for 3 history and 3 social studies is that two different things..right? or is it the same thing credit wise?

Oh and thanks for explaining the difference.

History is History (US History, World History, etc)

As stated Social Studies cover so much more. Your Civics and Economics for example are social studies

It would be incredibly unusual for a college to ask for BOTH 3 credits in history AND 3 credits in social sciences. That would be over a fourth of a typical high schoolers credits.

I love History it's extremely lucid for me. Best subject everrrr lol. On the other hand if I had to choose within History I would choose US History because it's amazing to study.
