ATTN: People planning on taking the PSAT.

Set up a new e-mail address for the sake of containing all the spam from colleges.

When I took the PSAT eleven months ago (which means it's only one month from now, thank you, modular arithmetic), I filled in a bubble that essentially gave consent for colleges to spam me with messages that told me to "consider applying" to them.

My inbox is now filled to the brim with literally hundreds of such messages, and I'm using the word "literally" correctly. It'll take me a while to clear them all (but that's because I'm a bit lazy when it comes to sorting through my e-mail).

So yeah, having one e-mail address for the sake of college admissions is an organizational boon IMO.

P.S: I hate to sound cynical here, but colleges message you with such e-mails not because they actually want you to be a part of the school, but because they want you to at least send them the hefty admissions fee that will undoubtedly come with your application.

P.P.S: I bet some of you have already taken such precautions already. If so, congratulations.

I didn't think about this the three times I took it and now my inbox gets around 30 emails a day.

I created a filter so any email with the word college goes to spam.

I have a new email that no one knows about for applications.

I gave them my email as a sophomore, but the mail never really helped me, so I didn't even bother this year. Most of the mail I got was either from God-awful local colleges or colleges that I have no remote chance of getting into.
