So I completely think that Ap is a better program. I can get more college credit, choose the classes I want to take however at my school yearlong Ap classes have an honors component (5 points) then Ap component (6 points) where are IB is 6 points yearlong. I would have a higher gpa and the SL classes are easier. Plus my rank would be much higher. If I did Ap this would be my jr and sr schedule.

Would this be ok for top schools such as ivies/Stanford even if I am not ranked #1?

I think it would be fine! My school doesn`t even have IB, just AP, but from what I hear from friends who go to different school and people on here, even if it did have IB, I`d still just go for AP.

I'm in IB, so I think IB would be a better choice, especially if you go diploma. It's more analytical work, you have to take a class in every group/subject, and I think it's generally more rigorous because you have extra stuff to do on top of your classes. Good prep for college.

IB is terrible and totally underwhelming. Go AP and save yourself.

They're equal to college admissions officer. At my school you have to be in the IB program and you HAVE to take certain classes. I prefer AP because you have a choice and you don't have to take all APs.

Terrible and underwhelming? How so? If you're trying to turn someone off the program you should at least give a little reasoning behind your statements.

What I have heard is IB is more demanding than AP. It really depends...I mean, do u see yourself going to another country to study? if so, then IB is your best bet. If not, then go for AP. AP = IB like someone said above in a college admissions officer eyes and AP preps u enough for college while still allowing u to be a high school student. Sources: various friends in IB

At my school we take 3 HL 3 SL and TOK. Ap is equivalent to HL classes. I also know that most colleges only accept HL credit. I think Ap is the better option and I would much rather take Ap but it would bring down my rank and gpa while being more difficult.

I wouldn't necessarily say IB is harder then AP, but it does require much more vs AP. IB is much more work intensive and because you have to take certain classes to get the diploma over AP. Becuase of that, you get much more hw plus CAS and EE/TOK. It also emphasizes more group work then AP and since you have a class for two years vs one, you can't just kinda learn the subject then forget it. Everything you learn is tested for at the end of your senior year. Friends of mine that got out of IB say that they have much less stress and hw. Like someone said earlier, IB requires a more anyalitical type thinking and goes more in depth in a subject. Because I can only take 3-4 HL classes, I'm probably going to do the Subject Tests for the classes that are SL to maybe get credit for it. That is a major downside of IB beyond the work load. And at the OP, just because your opinion that AP is "clearly better" is a bit presumptuous, there are both disadvantages and advantages to AP and IB.
