Mock Trial

Anyone here do mock trial?

I'm really interested in joining the division at my school.
The only problem is, I have trouble being assertive and speaking loudly..
I'm kind of shy when it comes to public debate.

Do you think that I can do well in the club?
I want to learn about all of that legal jazz, and I want to take on cases, and do research.
It sounds like a worthwhile EC. I wanna give it a shot.

I say go for it. Public speaking is an essential skill so it'd be a helpful way to improve your vocal projection. I think that'll be easier to fix compared to controlling nerves. I used to get so nervous that others could hear my voice tremble. Now I've gotten past that so there's no reason why you can't overcome being soft spoken.

I plan on joining, except we have to try out. Does anyone know what tryouts are like?

Yeah, we have to try out too.. Tryouts are tomorrow. They'll be asking us for our opinion on a number of subjects and we have to give well-thought out answers. I'm not very prepared - the meeting was yesterday (Friday) so I only have today to get ready for whatever the attorneys throw at us.

I'm thinking I just won't try out, then.. :/
I'll see what happens..

My friend who's in MT told me to get over my nerves and just assert myself, be the first to talk, even if I'm scared of public speaking. She said that once I get talking, I'll be fine. Is that true?
