will this hurt me?

Hi guys. So far in high school, the lowest grade I've gotten in all but one of my classes is a 90, and my class rank is about top 5%. I go to a competitive public high school in NYC. Last year, I got an 85 in Physics (I didn't really understand/like the topic). My class rank is still the same, though GPA was lowered a little because it took off two or three points on my overall average. Will the 85 hurt me for college admissions? It wasn't even an AP course, it was a normal high school course.

Thanks.

Grades are inanimate objects and cannot inflict pain.

I would argue that grades aren't really objects, per se.

-.- An 85 won't effect you in any way. I got a C in physics freshman year, so you're fine.

@yankeesfanatic not really what i meant but thanks for bumping my post anyway.

i know an 85 in and of itself wont impact me that much but it affected my gpa for that year which was lower than previous years. i am aiming for ivys and top LACs too, if that matters.

Well was it regular physics? Do you get extra points added to your grade for harder classes. My school AP kids get 10 extra points and IB kids get 15 extra *Woot!* added to their grade. It makes me get up to a 5.5 GPA(IDK what I have now), but you shouldn't worry so much.

Yes if a grade lowers your GPA it logically follows that it will hurt your chances (however slightly) of getting into any college at which GPA is considered in admissions (I'm going to say all of them?).

It was regular physics, yes. I know that my lowered GPA will slightly hurt, but it is still a good GPA for the schools I'm applying to. I'm more concerned about whether or not it will look bad on my transcript, especially since it just sticks out among all the other grades on it.

No, you're fine. Not many people make it through high school without any B's. Even extremely smart people get B's once in a while. Colleges don't expect you to be perfect..

Which subjects to include in your gpa , I have been given grades on work experience , phy and health education and general studies . Should I include these 3 also with rest of my 5 main subjects ?
