Accidentally took home a test

I was taking a pretty big test today in school for Honors English 10- it was a essay-based, content test for the book Johnny Got His Gun. We were given a bunch of prompts and were able to type them out on Microsoft Word to save time and paper. Anyway, we had a shortened period today so the teacher told us we could continue tomorrow. She instructed us to print off what we had so far, staple the prompts sheet to the top and hand it in. However, after stapling mine I must have been distracted or something because I stuck it in my binder and just realized tonight when I took out the binder to do other homework.

What do I do?! I emailed my teacher asking if I can give it to her tomorrow or retake it or do an alternate assignment so she knows I didn't cheat. She's old-fashioned and a bit of a grouch so I'm really scared she'll think I purposely took it home to work on it, then give me a zero.

Anyway, I studied super hard for it and thought I had done really well with what I had so far. I have a 94% in the class right now (lowest possible percentage for an A) and I'm really freaked out right now. I've been doing well and she seems to like me, and I'm scared this will ruin both my grade and my reputation with her, and possibly face disciplinary measures.

Please tell me what you would do?

If you e-mailed your teacher and was honest, I highly doubt you`ll get in trouble.

Like usasoccer said, happens to the best of us.

Happens to the best of us.

Considering most people wouldn't take the time to tell the teacher/offer to retake to prove innocence, I'm sure you will be fine!

It was a mistake. You already took the initiative to contact her, and it wasn't malicious. You'll be fine

Be extremely careful. This could quickly turn out bad if you make one mistake. These situations are really serious, at least at my school.

I think you'll be fine - you were honest and notified her immediately when you found out - you did everything you possibly could do in your power. Believe it or not, teachers are human beings too, and surprisingly enough, they understand that not everyone is perfect and that we all have our low days.

Freshman Year, in Honors Bio, we were taking our final, and I absentmindedly put my answer sheet in my binder before the test even began and then freaked out when I couldn't find it. It wasn't until she (my Bio teacher) gave me a new answer sheet (which was a pain, since they were scantron's with our names on them) and I finished the entire test that I saw my answer sheet just chillaxing in my binder.
