Look, don't let the b******s get you down here. You are probably not Ivy-bound, but you have some interests and strengths. Clearly, you are a writer, and have three finished novels. Forget that you are Asian for a little while, take it easy on the math and find what you love. Look at a place like Oberlin. Talk to your parents. Get some realistic goals, and take care of your mental health. Most importantly, don't ask people to chance you - it will just cause you unnecessary stress. Hugs to you.

I guess I wasn't very clear with what I wanted from this thread. Haha, especially the title qq

Anyways, what I really wanted was just advice, so thank you.
Oberlin sounds like a cool place, although I shy away from going to somewhere that landlocked. Living along a coastal area really makes me not want to leave shores. Running on beaches is really great

I've taken a look at other schools:
Knox College
Lake Forest College
Ursinus College
Hampshire College (this is pretty cool, cross registering with others in Amherst area)

So, what would colleges think about taking a class outside of school (i.e. AB Calc)? I really do not think, and this is quite honestly, that I don't understand the concepts.

I think that's the only way to go right now. The reason I'm worrying about math, especially Calc, is because I'm really interested in neuroscience. And like all of the sciences need Calc, except maybe like Human Bio.

But other than the crappy Calc situation, am I going in the right direction?

Also, suggest more places please?
Things I want in college: Professors who actually know you, residential college system, quirky (as in, I don't really fit in with the "normal" people), in states bordering the coastline and have DII or DIII track and field.

Thanks

If you looking for quirky a LAC would probably be a good option for you, not too sure about ones that will meet your geographical requirements, but it should be easy for you to find using a college matching app. LACs are also more like to have the environment where teachers know the students well.

I am not sure about your calc question (not completely sure what you are asking), from my understanding you want to drop calc and take it elsewhere. Not the greatest idea in my opinion, you really should just transfer into an easier math class and take calc in college.

On a side note we have the same intended major (at least I think neuroscience is your intended major) and you don't actually need much math depending on the program. I was talking to a neuroscience major a little while ago and they had chosen a program that has a psychology focus to avoid the math. That being said yes you will need calc, but doing it in college is not big deal.

LOL first post i see, i think overstressed asian flipping out . A 3.54 is a major killer for ever school you listed except maybe claremont. A 2150 sat doesn't suck.

I would try switching class. Seriously, get your parents involved, complain to the Principal...whatever. Math doesn't work just one way and if your teacher things that...well, she's wrong.

Thanks for the input, everyone.

And yeah, 2150 DOES suck. I'll probably take the ACT - got a 32 overall when I was in 8th grade. 30 in English, 33 in Math, 29 in Reading and 31 in Science. Got a 10 on the essay.
Versus the SAT, which I also took in 8th grade, on which I got 580 for Critical Reading, 670 for Math, and 610 for writing, with a 6 on the essay. I hope I've improved for the ACT though. for SAT I barely improved. T_T

Your GPA may be a detriment to your application, but colleges do take a more holistic approach than that, so go ahead and apply to your top schools anyway--you never know! Though do of course have more realistic schools on your list as well.

As for the math, I've had that situation before and I know it can be frustrating, but honestly you are not failing because your teacher as a "freaking vendetta" against you. Especially in math, which cannot be graded subjectively (either the number/method is right or it is wrong...) I get that her method of grading may be annoying, but after the first test why did you keep trying to do it your own way? I mean I see how it's unfair that she marks you down for doing a different method but once you found out that she did this, why didn't you just stick to her methods?!
