Drug/Alchohol Problem?

This is a raging problem at my school. What can I do, as a teenager (either in school or through local govt avenues) to try and subdue the problem?

Since the '60s? More like since forever. The one thing you can do is get over it. Nobody forces you to take drugs so you should make your own decisions and not worry about other people's.

Don't try and convert people with UCLA intro psych mind tricks. Just learn not to worry about other people's business (I'm assuming you mean weed when you say "drugs"). If drinking and drugs really bother you, you're in the minority of high school students, and you're in for a huge shock when you do go to college. And unless someone is using hard drugs, it's really not even a problem.

it's not a problem unless you interpret it as a problem.

and also, why do u think its wrong to do that. just do it and be responisble and in controlled amounts

and its not a mind trick. you know when you do something stupid but u think its right and then someone points out that it was stupid you realize how stupid u were?

-don't let my spelling and grammar undermine my intelligence

Drinking and smoking on occasion is not a problem. In Europe, people don't think twice about alcohol.

wow - i really did not think people would be angry about me trying to stop drug abuse in my school. and even if im not the one doing it, quite frankly, it still is my business. why? these people are on the roads, drunk/high, putting other people at risk.

and just because something has been an issue for a long time doesnt mean its too late to start trying to fix it. To quote history (sorry, this example is way overused, but it works here), African-Americans had been discriminated against for centuries before Martin Luther King, but that didn't stop him from trying to change other peoples minds.

You really don't need to like..single-handedly start the anti-drug revolution among America's young people..

Just don't partake if it bothers you.

Exactly, if it bothers you, don't do it. Otherwise, get over it. And the MLK example may be the worst analogy ever. Blacks had been systematically opressed for generations. You're not systematically opressed, just self-righteous.

D: I'm totally with you on this subject. I had a friend die of an OD and my cousin died at 23 from cirocis (sp?) becuase she started drinking at 12 and never stopped. I would love to give you advice on how to get it to stop but unfortunatly I can't. It took Lance dying to make people stop popping pills (although its started up again) and people still smoke pot like its going out of style. I lost one of my best friends because he decided that he liked pot and it got to the point where I couldn't even talk to him because he was high ALL THE TIME. So I understand where you're coming from in the whole I want to stop the drug/alcohol abuse thing but I have no clue. I do know however that reverse psychology DOES work...I was talking to one of my friends that used to do crack like crazy and someone told her "fine you want to do it do it, I dont care if you ruin your life, but if something happens and you end up dead, don't expect me to go to your funeral" and it worked on my bf also so *shrugs* thats the best way that I can tell you...sorry that I couldn't be more help.

It's great that you care about your classmates. You can start an organization like Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). Contact your state SADD office to find out how to do this.
